I prefer the Duratracs for deeper snow due to the void patterns and size, and the KO2s for more compacted snow & ice due to the surface area and sipes... although studs are better for true ice.
In NYC, our biggest problem is hard compacted snow and ice since the population is very dense, there isn't always somewhere to put the snow, so it gets run over and over and over again a lot.

Yeah, I’ve driven there through a few snowstorms including after the “big one” that missed NYC and hit the rest of New England in Feb 2013, when we were there to see SNL and a few other things. I was impressed by the number of garbage trucks with plows out on the street in very quick fashion, where the near foot of snow that had mostly fallen after midnight and stopped early morning was pretty much cleared from the streets by about 7am when people were making their way in the morning, but constant snow would just get compressed, especially on side streets.
In Calgary (and many major Canadian cities) it’s pretty much the same, except maybe Montreal which just takes all the snow and dumps it in the river which always disturbed me when I saw the convoys of dump trucks with grey-brown snow going to pollute the river.

Mid-storm 2013.

I'm not sure about other countries, but in the US, the tire brands that rate at the top are:
Michelin, BFGoodrich, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Continental, Nitto

Mid range brands:
Sumitimo (Falken) Hankook, Kumho, Cooper, General, etc

Then the no name brands from China that are sold private label by major tire retailers.

I would put my trust in the top brands, there are many good all terrain tires by all of them. The mid range tires are fine if you are on a budget, most of them are safe but not the most advanced tread patterns or rubber compounds. I've bought numerous tires in the past on my Wranglers. Bridgestone A/T Revo, Goodyear Duratrac, Hankook M/T, BFG M/T (Old school), BFG A/T KO, Firestone Destination A/T. If I were to buy a tire today it would be the Duratracs. They are more aggressive than the typical All Terrain but not as noisy as true Mud Terrain tires. I haven't tested the new version of the BFG AT KO2, so I can't say if it's better. You can't tell the true character of a tire until it's mounted on your particular vehicle.

I’m not sure about the US, but for Canada I would add Nokian to your top brand list, but primarily for Winter Tyres.

And I’d add Yokahama in the Mid range, although the GeoLanders are as good as many of the top players’ offerings including the Duratracs and KO2s IMO, I just wouldn’t chose them for my use on the Wrangler.

I'm hearing some great feedback from JK owners who have the KO2, and I'm about to put a set of 34x10.5x17's on my JK. I'd be thrilled with 33" KO2's coming stock on the JL Rubicon. Gotta have those high mount front fenders, though.

This is a weird thing that does not exist in these lists of Dunlop, Toyo and Yokohama!
With regard to (BFGoodrich) is owned and calculated by Michelin.

There are editions of these companies were bad and in return there are editions of companies not "famous" published editions of magazines that are highly specialized.

Dunlop, Toyo and Yokohama aren't that popular here in the US. Most of the folks in my Jeep groups and clubs ran the brands I mentioned earlier. The tires I saw most people running were the BFG M/T and the Goodyear M/T because our off road parks were pretty slick and all terrains got packed with mud pretty quickly.

I've never seen the Ridge Grapplers in person but they look great. Trail Grapplers are excellent tires but they are very expensive. My favorite tire they make is the Mud Grappler but they are noisy. You can't go wrong with any Nitto off road tire IMO.

I'd agree that Dunlop and Yokohama aren't that popular here. I think they are also a lower quality tire. I would personally put them below Cooper and Hankook. However, Toyos are very popular. I think the Toyo MT is one of the favorites over on jeepforum.com. Also don't forget that Toyo owns Nitto. They are very similar tires.

What does everyone know about the Dick Cepek Fun Country tires? I think they look awesome, very aggressive looking for a tire that is supposed to be an all terrain tire. I have heard of them, but not real familiar with them and don't know anyone who has had them. They are slightly pricier than the KO2's, but I like the appearance better.

I like the KO2, and will happily run them and wear them out, but would love a KM2 with a D load rating for my Rubi. My JK has KM2s and they are amazing off road, and good on road in most conditions. I'd like a slightly softer ride, slightly less noise, and better packed snow traction. Really, I'd like something 1/2 way between the KO 2 and KM2. Every tire is a compromise, though.
