Sorry for the slightly blurred image but hopefully you'll see what I'm referring to. I think this is connected to what you'd term as an upper rear control arm or link, in front of the rear wheel on the N/S (passenger side in the UK or drivers side in the US).
It looks as though it may be adjustable, as in threaded and may well be connected to some sort of sensor or switch. What is interesting though, is that there is only one, there isn't one on the other side.

Makes me think of a headlight leveling switch on my old BMW. Don't remember seeing that on our US market JL, and I believe it's specifically a euro requirement.
