I was under my may '22 jeep doing an oil change and just noticed two holes on either side of the front diff (facing the rear of the vehicle). I searched some images online and saw mostly flush painted holes where I assume it was welded to the axle.
Mine are deep and turning orange. I assume it's no big deal, but I don't know for sure so I thought I'd ask here first!

Those are some pretty crappy plug welds from Dana. I doubt the dealer would do anything about it and there's not a lot of risk of anything bad happening in the future other than more rust. But if it were mine, I'd find a fab shop and have them reweld those and throw a quick coat of paint on there.

Those are called rosette welds. The purpose is to keep the tube from spinning inside the diff housing. These don't look good, but they're perfectly fine. The welds go in deep. When these are drilled for weld prep, they drill into the tube itself about 20-30% the thickness of the material. Then fill with weld. Most are filled flush so it looks better and to keep moisture out. Yours just aren't filled all the way and the orange is rust. You can just leave these alone or hit them with some paint. You have nothing to worry about here. All is normal.
