Weird drivers lately

Several times in the past few years have fellow Wrangler owners slowed in the adjacent* lane to briefly pace me, their front bumpers aligned with my rear bumper.

After perhaps 30 seconds, they'll speed up and continue on their way.

My theory, and that's all it is, is that they're eyeballing my flush-mount taillights. Mine is the only Jeep that I've ever seen with them.

*I'd say passing lane, but there's too many slowpokes to allow the use of the proper name.

It happened again 2x by the same car... a Nissan sporty car. But they did not pass. Nothing special about my Jeep as for add-ons that can be seen from approach. On the 2nd time they made a turn into a lot and turned on their lights while stopping facing the direction of traffic flow. I think I am a weirdness magnet. Nothing to do with my driving as I am not driving slow and maintain a good rate of speed. perhaps peeps are mesmerized by a bright white jeep? HA!

This is nothing new by any means. I've had my license for ten years and have always dealt with the most distracted, idiotic drivers. It's everywhere you go too. There's no perfect road. I will say the number of phone distractions is increasing.

It seems like everyday I get stuck behind someone veering from side to side going ten under the speed limit. And of course, I'm in a no passing zone! Typical! And when I finally pass to look at the driver, they're either buried in their phone or just completely oblivious.

What I never understood for years is that most cars have bluetooth. And yet, I constantly see people driving in cars with hands-free connectivity and they STILL feel the need to hold the phone on speaker in one hand and the wheel in the other! It's infuriating! You have bluetooth! Use it! That's what it's there for! I don't get why that's so hard for people to grasp!

be glad u dont drive in northern va. all assholes all the time, everything u guys mentioned. its very annoying for someone that doesnt cell phone and drive. Get the fuck out the way, get in the right lane, some of us have places to go and would like to get there faster then google says

When I started driving if you needed to contact someone you pulled over, put a dime in the phone in the telephone booth and made your call. I think the phone is by far the biggest culprit for weird, dangerous (bad) driving incidents. Also, with a lot of states passing laws for recreational weed doesn’t help either. Not smoking weed while driving doesn’t work. Lack of concern for anyone else on the road but themselves is way up there too. When I started driving there was less traffic for sure but there was also more respect for others on the road and driving laws. Right turn on red is a great idea but most people take the turn without even looking or slowing down, never mind stopping. I have seen a lot of change during my years of driving, from the amount of traffic, changes in highways and the vehicles themselves. Just last night I said to my wife that here we were driving about 15 mph over the speed limit and there was a state trooper 2 cars ahead of us being passed by cars going even faster.

In the thread of bad drivers, my wife, son, three dogs and I spent five hours stuck on a floating bridge in a rainstorm last night... One simple mistake cost someone their life and seriously hurt another. I can't figure out why folks can't focus on what they're doing, pay attention, slow down and treat each other with some goddamned respect.

A couple of years ago, while driving on a road that I use frequently, I passed the site of a collision that had obviously occurred recently. This was at an intersection where my Spidey Sense is always on High Alert, due to impatient drivers pulling out when they [know they] shouldn't.

One of the involved vehicles, a compact CUV, was reduced to just the rear doors and the tail gate. Anything forward of the B pillars wasn't just crushed...it was missing. Front doors...quarter panels...engine. All seemingly absent.

Given the degree of carnage, I wondered just how fast they or the other vehicle(s) were driving on that 55 MPH stretch of highway.

I watched a few UK police and rescue TV series around 2012 and 2019. From what I have seen on those programmes, I fear no driver on any US road. UK lorry drivers, thieves in posh cars and white vans scare the bajeebus out of me.

There was one episode of a CUV stopping behind a lorry in a rainy day on the highway. Another lorry ran into it at speed and progressed to punt it like a football into on coming traffic. For the size of GB they have as much carnage as the US in one year. The crazy thing is hoods making a mad dash away from police. They are on a fecking (pardon my Irish) island where are they going to go?

In my slice of paradise between the cobwebs and the corn, the speed limit is 55 mph on the two-lane from the little town where I live to the city where I work. It’s around 25 miles but takes about 40 minutes because you have to slow down for three little towns and stop at a couple lights. I leave the house at around 5am. Even on a good day, if you aren’t pushing 70, you‘re getting ran over. I’ve noticed when I’m in my truck I’m fine, but when I switch to my Jeep it’s like they let all the squirrel-bait loose.

Enough weird drivers out there prompted me to get a dash cam.

Just today I nearly got T-boned by a rube in a pickup truck who came over a rise well over the posted limit.

I had proceeded because I didn't see any traffic. His speed brought him up and over in such a way that he had to brake hard enough to cause tire scrub (no small matter with ABS.)

The speed limit is what it is in that area so that perpendicular traffic, like myself, can safely pull out after coming to a stop and looking in both directions.

I hope he was startled straight, so to speak.

That's my 3rd close call in that general area. A couple of years ago, a farmer pulling a long ag trailer turned purposely tight, so that I was forced to scramble to the shoulder to get out of his way. Otherwise, he'd have literally pulled the front end of my car along with the trailer. The road width at the intersection where he turned was such that he had no reason to pull that stunt.

The other time, a Mennonite woman in a minivan pulled right out on to the road from her farm driveway, without slowing or looking. I was on the bike that day, and had I not swerved as hard as I was forced to do, I might not be here.

It's episodes like those that inform who I profile, and where.
