Just after a bit of advise… I’ve been casually looking at getting a winch for my 2-door JL. I was gonna hold out for the new ARB that’s gonna be available sometime in the new year, but it’s kinda top dollar at about $1500 ??

The alternative was a Warn VR EV8 with a synthetic line. This morning I was casually looking online and I can get one for $470 albeit with a steel cable. Now if I replaced the steel cable with a synthetic line for $300 at the most. It’d still work out less expensive than the buying one new. Yeah I’ll have to purchase a fairlead but chances are I’d upgrade the stock one anyway.

Am I missing something here, is it too good an offer and something I shouldn’t even be asking about !! Is replacing the line a pain in the ass and something I should avoid ??

The winch is on offer at Northridge and I’m sure I’ve got something from them in the past.

Any advise would be welcome,

Thanks.

I wouldn't hesitate. I always wanted a Warn winch. It was my first choice but I was uncomfortable not having a local Warn dealer near by, so I went with a Badland from Harbor Freight. Northridge is a great company to do business with and a forum sponsor. It is very easy to swap out the cable to synthetic line. I suggest doing this on day 1, so the spool doesn't get any sharp burs on it. Plus the cable is brand new. I sold mine for $25. My winch came with 80 feet of cable. It accepted 100 feet of synthetic line no problem. I ordered mine off Amazon, I think it was around $80.

Best of luck, enjoy your new winch and please post a few pictures of that bad boy.

VR equals made in China. The quality and finish aren't great.

The Evo line and above are assembled in the US, with global parts cough cough.

I've got a Evo S 10k on my truck and a Badlands 12k on my Jeep.

Badlands is the way to go. Get the additional Harbor Freight warranty.

If you are serious about looking at a $1500 winch, go with the Warn Zeon line. Right now a Zeon 10-S is $1199.00 + free freight.

As far as the Warn EVO VR winches, they are also a solid choice. We've used them on a few of our company and employee vehicles and they've performed well over the years.

We do have a package deal on a Warn VR EVO 10 that comes with a Grimm Offroad fairlead and a Warn synthetic line for $809.00, which is less expensive than buying a EVO10-S outright:
