Discount tire is the way to go. Think the others don’t want to deal with the liability (or the perception there of).

DT sticks to the rules too, but Tire Rim Manufacturers Association approves 35/12.50/17’s within standard guidelines for 7.5” wheels and is good enough for them.( per DT) they did remove the trim rings but didn’t charge extra for it. ?

I've had this refusal at Costco too, including for my TJ years back. Big O doesn't hesitate and they seem to do good service too. Discount Tire I thought too, so maybe it depends on the location/franchise rather than central corporation.

When Costco refused years ago but I'd already bought the tires, I drove home, put the TJ on jacks and brought the wheels/tires to Costco in my wife's car. They'll install the tires on a wheel but won't put the wheel on the vehicle. And they won't stand back and let you put the wheel on your vehicle either--I asked, haha.

Haven't bought tires from Costco in decades for that reason.

I ordered/bought 35's from Walmart. The order came in and I went to have them installed today. The conversation went like this:

Service manager: "What vehicle are these going on?"
Me: "A Jeep"
SM: "What tires are supposed to be on it?"
Me: "35 x 12.50"
SM: "What tire size is on the door sticker?"
Me: "I don't know... 255 something"
SM: "We can't install these"
Me: "What?"
SM: "We can only install what the door sticker says"
Me: "OK, I'll take them then"

He didn't even look at the Jeep.

Another guy was there getting something done and he said the same thing happened to him when he wanted his snow tires swapped on. They were 1 number off but he has had them on before.

Yes, I know it is a line of bullshit and other Walmarts install oversized tires. My brother had 305s installed last weekend on his Jeep on Long Island. This was Waterford, CT store. It's a shame people get away with this bullshit but my time is more valuable than sitting in the store or on the phone to complain to a "Manager" that doesn't really care either. I'll just find a local Mom and Pop repair shop to do it.
I still think it is funny you openly lied “What tires are supposed to be on it?” — you: 35x12.5, knowing that was not right……..

The sticker is not on the door. It is on the door frame.
It's not on my door jamb, it's on the door, and the OP says door. Not that I care, but when I read door sticker, and the sticker is on my door, I took it at face value the OP meant on the door.

You have a 2D so it is on the door. OP's profile says JLU so it would be on the jamb. :)

LOL! Yup, he asked "What is supposed to be on it?" That's a subjective question. I want 35s so that's what is supposed to be on it. Once he asked what the sticker said, I responded with the stock size. I knew where this was going as soon as he started with the questions.

I've been buying tires for several decades now. And my usual process it to go to a tire store and tell them what I need. They order the tires, and when they come in, I go to the tire store and have them mounted and balanced, then installed. And then I pay for the whole thing. I've had a few tire store salespeople ask what they are going on, and if I'm sure they'll fit. To which I generally reply, "I'll make them fit, don't worry about it". I don't pay until they're mounted, balanced, and installed. Isn't this the way you guys do business? If a store refused to mount tires on my Jeep I would just tell them to keep the tires and go elsewhere. Why can't you do that?

I certainly can. I ordered and waited a week for them, don't want to wait longer. I'll take to a local Mom and Pop and get them put on. No harm, no foul.

Now you know where Not to go, and so do others that didn’t know. A good Public Service Announcement by your experience.
I did verify with DT before ordering, as you will now do.

The idea of letting any "mechanic" at Wal-Mart within 10 feet of any vehicle I own makes me physically nauseous.

There's no way you saved enough money to justify going to Wal-Mart. Plus doesn't @Discount Tire price match?
Discount Tire does maintain a Low Price Promise. We will match competitor pricing on all products that we carry.

Anyone who goes to Walmart for anything gets what they deserve. Yeah, yeah, we're all looking for "value," but "value" isn't always the absolutely lowest price. I pay a little more to local places where the owners have investment in my business and my community.
