Waiting for diesel?

I believe the range for an Ecodiesel might be greater than the gas models also. A while back, doing some reading and knowing the Ram 1500 ED is rated at 29mpg, maybe the wrangler is IMHO, around 32 hwy may not be too farfetched. Lets just hope we can get this Jeep to become reality, now that the green goblins at the EPA have been castrated. LOL

I get 28.5 all around in my tuned 2016 eco Diesel Ram. I don't baby it either. I do 80+ on the highway for 1/2 my commute the rest is stop and go traffic. Yes I would expect 30+ mpg in a Wrangler. 33 if you baby it. I doubt it will be a $1500 up charge when its a $4500 adder in the ram. The diesel needs some highway miles to do a exhaust filter cleaning regen every now and then so keep that in mind. I only plan to drive my new JL a few times a week so it would take us many years to make up $4500 in fuel. The Diesel is a bit noisy but nothing like the older Diesels from the past. When the top is off I didn't want to have to raise my voice to talk.

The 4500 comes with the territory. But I still believe that those diesels are longer lasting than gas engines. But I know that the premium is going to be worth it. And the mpg after a few years, even with DEF and all, are going to make a difference. I'm waiting for diesel...

My 1500 Ram curb weight is 7000lbs. The Rubicon 4-door is 4500lbs. Coming in at 2500lbs lighter, the Jeep will haul ass and have excellent mileage with a 3.0 Diesel. I opted out of diesel this time due to the up cost and not driving it enough to worry about MPG's. I'm happy with my truck and would expect this jeep platform be a good fit for the 3.0. If someone test drove a 1500 eco and are thinking it doesn't have balls. Take away 2500lbs and bet you will feel differently.

I've been waiting so long for the power top I may as well wait for the diesel. I think I read somewhere that production for it starts in August? Or is that ordering? I was hoping to have one by the end of October

The general consensus is that the ordering will begin Aug 8th, so hopefully we'll have some oil burning by Oct-Nov time frame. The Scrambler is also announced to be available by Apr 2019, and this I read here on Scrambler Forums. Let"s hope and pray that FCA delivers because there are a ton of us waiting for this vehicles to become reality. And if you look at the numbers of JL's sold in the past two months, they are selling like hot cakes. FCA is losing market share by not having the Ecodiesel available along with the Scrambler pick-up. I'm waiting for diesel...

My only current concern is the DPF. Seems rather costly to clean or replace and after some consideration not comfortable doing a delete. Otherwise I can’t see any other reason not to wait on this. My other option is the Turbo 4 and for that I’m waiting anyway.

Looking forward to owning a JLUR diesel. I know the quality is going to be alongside the 3.6 Pentastar. My JKUR is amazing, however the 8 spd transmission is really good. I had a 2015 Ram 1500 Hemi with it and it performed flawless, even under the harshest conditions. And I always drove it with purpose. The match with the 3.0 ecodiesel is going to be one of the best. Why do you think Ford is resurrecting the old Bronco with solid axles? But there will be no match IMHO, not even the Defender will be able to compete with the JL. Another reason why I'm waiting for diesel...

I’m still planning to wait for the diesel, but would a supercharger kit on the 3.6L/8-spd be a viable alternative for those of us looking for boost and torque? Does the 8 speed hold up with power increase?

Don’t know the diesel premium but it brings a factory warranty. Something to consider.

Im sure there are superchargers available for it. I have seen some converted to Hemi V-8 and 8spd from Grand Cherokee. They devour the rock crawling like there is no tomorrow. I'm sure you would love one of those. But if someone likes the sound of the diesel engine giving you the torque (442ftlb) when you going uphill or fording water bodies or just cruising down Daytona beach or Key West, I think the 3.0 is going to be great. And living in hurricane country like I do, its good to know that when the lines form at the gas stations to wait for fuel, diesel is going to be plentiful. The wait is almost over.

My main reason but the DPF is putting me off unless they usually survive the warranty as then I wouldn’t hesitate to perform a delete as this vehicle will no longer be my DD.
