So ever since my first drive with JL, I did notice the three knobs (volume, AC, and tune) are super sensitive to spin, a light tingle can go a long way, bump volume from 5 to 15 in no time.

Of course, I am a big guy who have enough manpower. So every time I am working on volumes or AC fan speed, I almost have to gently tap the knobs so slightly, like I am taping a clit...(forgive me on my analog but that is exactly what it is).

I knew these things are called potentiometer, is there a way to increase the resistance or dampen or whatever term it is called on these knobs, so that it will stiff up and not spin easily.

And my equally big passenger often bumps her knee to the tune knob by accident.

Do your knobs not have the click-stops? Sure you can turn right through them if you want, but I learned a long time ago that some things in life need a little tenderness instead of just man handling them. ;)

I can feel the click-stop, but the click part is really minimal and most of time I stop at random volume or track.

I felt the whole Wrangler design should be rugged and tough, while these dial knobs are designed just like in a Cadillac or Lexus, buttery smooth.

Yeah I wouldn't necessarily disagree. Most of the time I use the steering wheel buttons to adjust volume, tends to work better for me anyway. Sorry I'm not much help to your original inquiry, other than using some kind of spray glue or something to gum up the thing I don't know how one would go about stiffening it up.

I know this is an old thread, but I wholeheartedly agree with the OP. The detents in the wheels just aren’t long/stiff enough to prevent me from way over doing it, even when I’m being careful not to. The biggest complaint I have is actually the station select knob. The Jeep isn’t the smoothest vehicle, and combining that with a really sensitive dial means I usually mess it up. I also agree, I almost exclusively use the steering wheel controls because of this very reason. Then I try not to touch the fan speed that often

Based on gyroscopic principles like those seen is this wrist exerciser

Jeep Wrangler JL Volume/AC dial knobs spin easily 1598114615741

I believe @plex that a solution to your issue may reside in getting your rig to do "donuts" at a very high level of speed.

:);)

Seriously, I hope that the tension can be adjusted to your liking.

Spill a sugary beverage like Coke, Pepsi, or Mountain Due on them. That should stiffen them up a bit.

A couple drops of red Lock Tight around the knob should fix it right up.

That's very strong thinking @Deke. OP @plex, as @Deke said, "red" Locktite NOT "blue," used VERY sparingly. Blue is too strong.

You are not interested in lock up the threads, just making the torque required for something to spin around them of slightly greater force. : - )
