Hello-

I currently have a 2018 Sahara V6 with AEV 2.5” lift and 35” Falken tires. I’m considering a change to a 4xe Rubi after testing one out as my rental car. Found it very fun to drive.

Anyone who made the switch, pls provide pros/cons.

Also-can you put 35s on a Rubi without a lift?

Yes to the 35's. We had minimal rubbing at full flex with ours before the lift went on.

I've honestly preferred the driving and wheeling experience of the 4xe over the 3.6.

The 3.6 is a good reliable engine. Approx. 12 million of them, are out there running. That number is a combination of the original 3.6, and the 3.6 PUG. The 4XE, is a problem Ride. Two of my neighbors own them, and they spend more time at the Dealer getting repaired, verses with their owners for usage. Plus they have been warned, do not place them in ones garaged, because they may catch on fire and burn one house down. But that is your call.

Have had both. I'm buying out my 4xe lease whereas my 3.6 was traded in before 2 years.

Regarding longevity, I think if you gwt a good one, it'll outlast the 3.6. 3.6 has ironed out manufacturing issues since its been in production longer, but I think the 2.0 and 4xe system are better engineered.

The real problem is the aforementioned manufacturing issues. Mines been great for 30k, so I assume I'm lucky. But my observation on the troublesome 4xes is that the issues all seem to arise from how it was put together.

If you do get one, I suppose you'll just have to roll the dice on that part.

But Jeep has never been synonymous with quality either

I can't give any opinion on the 4xe as I've never driven one, but I do have a 2.0t with a 93 octane tune and I'll take that one the 3.6.

You can fit 35s on a Sport with no lift and minimal rubbing. Depends on the wheels they're mounted on. I'm currently running them on an unlifted JLU Rubicon, and I scored a higher RTI score than my gf's lifted JKUR on 37s. Have taken it to the trail a few times with no issues.

The V6 Etorque is the best of the bunch.

Is the etorque more expensive with repairs than the 3.6? Or similar?
We had six pages of Etorque owners and not ONE mentioned a need to go to the dealer.
So take that as you will.

The risk of fire is a recall and it doesn't affect all years of 4xe. Mine's at 53k miles, all recalls done, all types of Jeep driving, and no unusual issues. It's been our only vehicle for about a year after our 2015 with the 3.6 crapped out on us.

No alternator to worry about, but there is a generator to worry about. No aux battery going out every year but a 48V battery on the belly to worry about after the 8 year/80,000 mile warranty. I have had both versions of the 3.6L and with the smoothness of the shifting, the seamless auto start/stop, less wear on the starter, and the extra pep off the start, I like my eTorque 3.6L a lot better than the standard 3.6L.

If you like a 4XE then get one, but I would lease it, and not own it unless it was under warranty. The hybrid parts are covered for 8 year or 100,000 miles, but the rest is standard warranty. I see way too many of those things come in on rollback to buy. They lose value like crazy. I think they are a horrible design, but some people like them.
