Does the spare tire have a TPMS sensor in it? I want to do a 5-tire rotation using the spare and going in a clockwise rotation every oil change to extend the life of my tires. If I put the spare on the Jeep in this fashion, will the TPMS system recognize it?

@WXman

How does the JL/JLU know which tire/rim/wheel is where .....

There are 3 sensors on the chassis that monitor the 4 TPMS Sensors found on the 4 tire (rim) positions.

Info from the 3 chassis sensors is transmitted to the Wireless Control Module. There is no need for a 4th chassis sensor as the computer uses the process of elimination to determine the fourth tire location.

Yes, your JLU/JL knows exactly which rim is where, within seconds of a tire rotation for example.

There is a TPMS sensor in the factory mounted spare but it is not read by a chassis sensor/ considered by the computer until it is placed in one of the 4 tire positions.

On my Grand Cherokee, it will report the spare if it goes below 25 psi, but it does not show it on the display.
It is a 2002, and you do have to train the system by placing a magnet on each tire's valve stem in a sequence.

Cool. On previous Jeeps, there were 4 sensors. One near each wheel well. Just wanted to make sure the JL is setup to recognize the spare. Thanks.
