It appears to rest on the cargo floor when the tailgate is closed, so I don't think it's stressing the bolt holes that much. I personally wouldn't want to max it out at 40lbs, but as long as things are secured and not banging around inside, you'd probably be fine at 25-35 lbs.wonderful!!!
What do you think the max load is... the manufacturer says 40 lb... many think that it might be as low as 9 lb. Thank you for your great write-up.

I can’t find the internal dimensions anywhere. Whats the max length you could fit something in here? Im wondering if this would be a good option to store a long gun.I installed the tailgate lockbox. It's strong, can be used as a very good table (supports a Coleman two burner stove with ease), doesn't rattle or squeak, allows room for a floor mat, has more room inside than I imagined, but somehow is smaller on the outside than I imagined. Install took 20 minutes, and instructions are clear. Here are some photos that might help you get a sense of size.

yes, there is a thread on this. Essentially, you have to cut the included spacers (almost in half) so the Tuffy sits flush against the tailgate, and most recommend using some Weatherstripping between the Tuffy and the tailgate.Hi, I too am wondering if anybody has attempted to install the lockbox directly to the tailgate without the plastic panel? Does it tuck in tighter? Thanks!
