After being an advocate for replacing the stock halogen bulbs with LED bulbs, instead of paying a ton of money for the OEM LED headlight assemblies, or for a well-known brand of the same, I bit the bullet and just installed the True Mods headlight assemblies.

I’m still good with the LED-for-halogen bulb swap, as it saves a lot of money and works good enough, but I was becoming annoyed with the limitations of an LED bulb in front of a halogen reflector, as opposed to behind a proper projector.

The True Mods headlights are $249.99 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMVL75QD?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 They cost less on the True Mods website, but I needed these today before our Jeeping weekend starting tomorrow.

We look forward to a performance report, Jeff, not least because of your pragmatic view of LED-for-halogen bulb swaps.

I see that the linked lights include a DRL option, which itself requires a separate harness that is powered by a piggyback connection in the fuse box/PDC. Is the DRL an optional feature, as the appearance of the related plug (small red wire) on the headlight harness suggests? Just curious, as I've no interest in the halo DRL function itself. One of the product reviews mentions the installer not hooking up the halos, but one of the photos that accompanies the review plainly shows the halos illuminated.

James, yes, there is a fused red wire harness for the DRL halos, that runs to F52 in the PDC (pull the 20 amp fuse and replace it with the fused end of the red wire harness).

I elected to purchase the dual-halo DRL version and connected them. The single halo is also an option; both are the same price. They also sell a version that incorporates turn signals, with another wire harness for that function.

These come pre-aligned from the factory for a stock Jeep JL. In spite of my 2.5” lift, mine are spot-on. I took it out on the road a few minutes ago. Everything was well-lit (better than my previous LED bulb in a halogen assembly setup), and nobody flashed me. The low beam cutoff is crisp.

Here are a few photos showing the appearance of the assemblies with only the DRL in one photo, and low beams in the other.

Good to know. The Achilles heel of these lights might be their inability to be aimed when in situ on the Jeep. At least one reviewer mentioned having to guess the aim, and then adjust to that point via three small and fiddly screws on the backside of each headlight assembly.

Yes sir; I was dreading having to adjust them, and overjoyed when I discovered that it was unnecessary.😂

I installed this set for a buddy of mine last year and they look and work great! I was going to get a set for my jeep because they look similar to OEM.

I installed these True Mods headlights about 3 months ago and love them. I did install the wiring for the drl and that works great as well. They were aligned perfectly and no adjustments were needed. Note* the oem fog lights will look ugly in comparison. I upgraded those to led bulbs a couple weeks later.
