Two local dealers have agreed to 5% below invoice. My understanding was that the Treadlightly discount was additive to the deal - as in, the discount is now 6%. But...the following language from their website doesn't seem to support that:

$100 and $250 Levels
  • All of the above plus Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, SRT, and Fiat Affliate Rewards Program Preferred Price, 1% below factory invoice on purchase or lease of new vehicles.
So...will Treadlightly benefit me if I'm already better than 1% off?

Yes... the TL discount is added to the % below invoice, but keep in mind that not all dealers take the TL discount. So if the dealer offers 5% below invoice and they take the TL discount, you'd get 6% below invoice.

Who actually eats the discount? FCA or the dealer? [If it's the dealer I suspect that it's not additive]

From my understanding, FCA is paying for it. When I got my TL letter, I had to go to the FCA Affiliate Rewards website and enter my code to get my control number for the discount.

That's what I thought. The fact that a FCA is funding it should cause the dealer to make it additive to the 5%.

Rick, pass on that dealer. 5% below is a good starting point. + 1% for Tread Lightly. + 2% for financing thru them. That totals 8% minimum in savings. Ask for it.

If they say no, don’t get in their AZ (pun intended). Walk away: there are too many dealerships on this forum that will give you 8% off. You just need to find one.

Notorious, please tell me more about the 2% for financing. I'm a cash buyer, but have previously taken on temporary (4 months, and then payoff) financing to take advantage of a promotion. Is the 2% you mention something like that?

Rick, call me Kevin. And yes, finance thru them. If you have the cash to be able to pay off early make sure there are no prepayment penalties. Sign up for the financing option that gets you the least amount of interest and then pay off after six months. You should be able to do 0% for 36months. Don’t let the dealer know you have the cash to pay it all off.

you can also pay half at the time of purchase and finace the other half. like kevin mention. double check that theres no penalities in paying it off early. i was going to do the cash deal with my jl, but financed it to get a better deal and drive off the lot that day. i did the 36 month at 4.9% and no penalty in early pay off, which i'm planning on doing.

TL is stackable. It is actually 2%. It's 1% for you and another 1% for the dealer. In rare instances a dealer might pass along the extra 1% to you if they need the sale to reach a quota or sales goal.
