I was crawling around under my JLU Sahara and I see a nice hearty gas tank skid plate shield, a decent shield for the transfer case and then the transmission "skid plate" which literally is a bar. Is that it? That's what's supposed to protect the transmission?! If someone (not a Rubi owner) has anything more than this please take a pic and show me. If this really is it can we use a skid plate shield off a JLU Rubi?
Also hard to tell if the transmission cover is thick plastic or metal. I read it was supposed to be metal on the JLU and plastic on the Cherokee.

They changed it to a bar in 2012. Lots of folks speculated that quite a few of the JK fires that occurred were due to debris getting on the transmission skid and then catching fire from the heat. My 2012 just had a bar where 2011's had an actual skid plate there.

Ahhhh, thanks for the info. Maybe I'll custom make some bars to bolt on there. That way debris will fall through but it will offer better trans protection.
That trans pan is pretty exposed. It looks plastic but I hear it is metal. Going to check with a magnet later.
