I’m on the fence about weld on vs bolt on. Could anyone chime in on the pros and cons of each. I know weld is obviously more permanent, but is one stronger then the other?

Depends on the thickness of the material. Ours are 1/4" so pretty beefy.
Also a bolt on will be a faster install, considering the "prep" needed for welding.
Partial to ours :)
For the rear...

I have the RH bolt on front and rear lca skids also, real beefy. Easy to install.

One note, they won't work with the MetalCloak FAD skid. @ROCK HARD 4X4 said they have a FAD skid coming out that'll work with their LCA skids.

Holy road grader is the RH actually touching anything below the shock? It looks like they left air space so as to clear the nut for the shock?

It's difficult to tell from the pics on their site, anyone got a shot looking into the skid??

Regardless, I'm really baffled as to why more people aren't moving the shocks up (MC makes a bolt-on bracket) and trimming these stupid mounts? Just concern over shock length? Or fear of sparks?

I would lean towards shock length honestly.

Them RH’s look nice a stout. Maybe I’m missing something, but is there something that would keep them in place from moving?Looks like others use the bolt from the shock too..

Here's a copy & past of the FAQ on the RH4x4 page:

FAQ:
Why not weld on skid plates?
Unless you have hours to kill, not to mention a welder, go for it. We've found however that even weld-on versions aren't 1/4" thick steel.

Will these spin off during a hard impact?

No. Built in retention bends prevent the skid plate from rotating backwards.

Is any welding required?
No. Our mounting method allows for a DIY no-weld, truly bolt-in install.

What finish is available?
Rock Hard 4x4 skid plates ship powder coated black with a semi-smooth, semi-gloss finish.

Where is this mount made?
This product, like all RH4x4 parts, was designed, developed, tested, manufactured, and if applicable, powder coated, and shipped in the USA. And we don't mean the 75% legal standard to be able to say Made in USA. We are 100% Made in the United States of America!
