Long story short, went to a transmission shop for my 2019 JL that's at 66k miles to do a transmission fluid drain and fill. And unfortunately I wasn't clear enough to make sure they also change the filter, so they just did a drain and fill of the transmission fluid, no filter change.

I acknowledge I wasn't super clear in my request, and the shop acknowledged they could have asked more questions but took me at my word which I do respect.

My question is this, I know I need to go back and have them change the filter, and fluid. The shop is great, they are giving me a discount since they take some blame. The question is do I need to immediately go back and have the service done this week? Or can I wait a few months? I ask because it's a few hundred bucks for the full service and I'd rather save up for a month or two, but not sure if it's necessary I immediately go change the filter. I do off-road often, but not heavy towing or anything and it's typically low mileage driving in the city.

Since it was just a drain and fill there's still lots of old fluid in there. Drive it for a bit and do it again, this time with a new filter.

That's my thoughts. I'm just wondering if any urgency to do it tomorrow or if I can wait a few months?not wanting filter to get fully clogged by new fluid dislodging anything?

No whining or gear shift issues.

I’d also just wait 15-30k miles and do another drain/fill.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Let it run through and get some benefits from it. I'm not hearing any whining, smell and it's shifting fine

I have an old, trusty 2006 Suburban 1500. It has 198k miles and has NEVER had the fluid changed. The Indy mechanics and even the dealers all say, if it shifts fine, leave it alone. Which it does. I’m not changing it until the thing blows up. (Which will now mostly likely be tomorrow 😂).

Are you sure they dropped the pan, or did they just hook up a machine to your cooler lines? If they pulled the pan they should have cleaned the pan and magnet which is equally important as changing the filter
