I'm looking at tire straps right now and I think that may be the best tie down method. A search on etrailer.com shows 109 pages of them, but none are right. Most are for 30" tires, a few go up to 33" tires, and I found one that can be used on tires up to 37". I need them for 40" tires. Any brand names to help narrow it down?

I have the Rhino axle tie down straps as well as a set of heavy duty tire strraps with the chain. Work great.

Why not just flat-tow the jeep? That will reduce the stress on the hitch and the truck.

Get some axle straps, attach to the axle outside the shocks. Having 1 attachment point on the axles and one to the trailer is best.

Straps front and rear to the axles is enough, though when hauling any distance I will use an over the tire strap to keep the tires tight to the trailer, no bouncing on rough roads. Your tires fit nicely between the fenders so this would be less of a need.

I just got back from a 1200 mile trip and my Jeep did not move even a little and many of my miles where on poor Michigan roads.

I would use axles straps around the axles and ratchet straps from the axles straps and cross the ratchet straps back to the tie-down points. By crossing the ratchet straps, you minimize any lateral movement.

Make sure that the tires are rated for trailering and with the appropriate rating. One of the best trailer tires today is the Goodyear Endurance.

Respect the various capacity and weight ratings of the vehicle and related components and accessories. Never transport at full capacity. Just because it will roll down the road and stop under normal conditions doesn't mean everything is OK.

You should never exceed 75% of the ratings of the tongue, coupler, hitch receiver, ball mount, axles, tires and frame/chassis. Watch your tongue weight and the load weight distribution on the trailer. Most of the weight should be over the trailer's axle group and never behind the trailer's axle group..

You'll be surprised on how much of the weight can be distributed on the trailer by moving the load in either direction just by one inch.

Make sure the trailer has the required lighting and reflectors for the width of the trailer. Some States may require you carry a fire extinguisher, spare electrical fuses, and emergency warning road reflectors.

Looks like the trailer already has the reflective conspicuity material so you're good to go there.

Your front is pretty suspect looking. Make sure that those straps aren't touching anything remotely sharp or square. Under tension, it doesn't take much to cut them.
Always hook below the suspension, unless absolutely necessary. Above the suspension will constantly yank on the straps and mounting points. That shock loading from the constant yanking will put more stress on everything.
I personally use axle straps from RhinoUsa around the axles. Let those take the abuse vs my straps. Plus they have an extra abrasion sleeve for more protection.
The tire straps are a good option. I'm seeing more and more long haul car haulers using them.

Thanks for the pictures. That is a nice clean setup. I bookmarked the Rhino axle straps and I think that is what I'll do. It will be hard to use tire straps with my trailer. The rear tires of the Jeep need to go between the fenders to position the Jeep, so I get the proper tongue weight, and there are no d-rings or side rail to hook the tire straps to in that area.

Get the axle straps, like you are thinking. In the front, go through the outer C’s with the axle straps. In the rear, you should be able to go around the tubes and under anything connected to the tubes. I’ve got the RK long arms, so don’t remember exactly what a stock rear axle looks like with brake line routing/etc.

Never cross straps unless you absolutely have to. If one strap breaks or comes loose, the other strap under tension will try and shift the vehicle over, then you’ll have 2 loose straps, and likely the remaining 2 will get loose at that point.

Also, never strap from the frame or body. You want the suspension of the vehicle on the trailer to be able to move. If you strap down on the frame, hit a big bump or dip, the suspension will compress and snap back against the straps. This is how straps break, shock load.

This pic is with my old truck and not the greatest, but you can see straps are low and at the ends of the trailer. Makes for a very secure load.

The Jeep tires are 39" Moab Edition BFG KO2s. The Moab Edition tires have a very soft and sticky rubber compound that sticks to slick rock like glue. But they will wear out fast on the highway. So, If I've already got the trailer I might as well use it.

With you setup I would just do the 4 straps to the axles. With it being pinched between the fenders even over rough roads you will not get any side to side movement. And just run the straps straight no crossing.

I did end up adding tire blocks to the front of mine so I could really pull the front tires into them.

These straps came with the trailer I borrowed and tire size wasn’t an issue. They wrap around the tire and thread back through a loop, small or large self adjusting.

Professionals used tire straps. Do you ever get your vehicle transported across the country, the professional hotshoter is used tire straps. I would do with professionals are doing personally. Guys got the right idea! Clearly he knows what he's doing!

We could always ask @gsbrockman , as he is a hotshoter for a living!! :involve:
