Trailer hitch wiring question

So I just ordered a hitch and wiring harness from etrailer. I know you have to run power wire to battery etc. But what if i just ran it to my aux switches? I probably won't use this much hell don't even have a trailer. But will be renting a stump grinder this spring and need a way to tow it home. I have the volswitch aux setup if that makes a difference.

No need to go to the switches with the fuse box right behind the wire bundle under the hood. The hard part is doing the brake switch into the firewall and underneath the dash. Happy wrenching.

The tow harness's 12V wire connection to the battery is a one-time, permanent installation that won't take away the functionality of one of your Aux switches. More to the point, if you've already run that red wire from the rear of the vehicle to the front, why not just make the correct connection as noted in the instructions? You're already in the neighborhood, so to speak.

If the etrailer harness uses factory-style connectors that install inline on the tail lights, it's important that the harness be properly energized. Thus the stipulation to attach the 12V wire's ring terminal to the battery.
