Yup last year for the HEMI. That is part of why I decided to make the switch now.
Love the 5.7 eTorque/8 speed combo in our Wagoneer. Excellent powertrain combination.

Where did you find that YJ? OMG for the age it looks great! Up around where I live even TJ’s are turning back to the soil of the Earth. Har a chance for one last year but the frame was seriously rotted away.

As current Jeeps go, the YJ is the one version I missed out on.

NICE FIND!

Yeah, thanks.
I have no idea why it is not all rotted out, but I'm not complaining. I did a car fax on it, and it looks like it has always been up here in the northeast so it really should be rusted out by now. There is a little rot by the driver rear shock mount, but that's it that I can see so far.
It certainly has its issues, but hopefully I can tackle them one at a time. I think overall it is a good place to start.
This is my first YJ so it is a new world to me, but should be fun. I have had multiple tjs, a jk, and the JL so I am a newbie to leaf spring knowledge, but learning as I go haha.

That YJ looks like a FUN project!
Enjoy! (I'm envious ?)
Thanks! So far it has been fun. Have not had much time to really dive into it yet but picking away at it.
The little bit that I have drove it was a blast. Feels like a real antique compared to the JL haha!

Add fuel injection to the YJ?
it must be one of the early ones with the carbureted 258?

Oh heck YES it’s going to feel different! LMAO! It’s my missing link too in the Jeep Range and I have seriously given it a thought. Someone must have really taken care of that one so that will help you out for sure. It’ll make a great project!

Yes, that is the plan.

I was also contemplating a motor swap, but I like the straight six, and this one sounds very healthy when it is running. A little tough to start, but once it does, it just purrs away. Mostly adding fuel injection for off camber stuff and hill climbs.

I will also be doing gears in the new axles to gain back some of the power. It will still be slow, but I really don't care about that. As long as it can handle the trails I will be happy. I doubt this will ever see a highway again (except riding on a trailer) haha.

That sounds great! The 258 is a great engine. I had one in my '83 CJ-7. I also fuel injected that engine. The kit was by a company no longer in business, but there are good options out there today.
Mine was a simple throttle body injection kit, but completely changed the drivability of that Jeep.
The smog controls on those late 258's were complicated and crappy! (Mine was a CA Jeep, the worst).
Your plan will yield a huge improvement!
You'll love it!!

Awesome, that is good to hear thank you. Yeah, the wiring, and vacuum lines, etc. is a nightmare right now. I actually am not quite sure how it is running so good haha!
That is the next step to slowly and methodically (in theory anyway) clean up the wiring and hoses.
Thanks again

Just a little update. So.... yeah this YJ is turning a real project haha. The new wiring harness became new body mounts, the new body mounts became.... well let's just take the body off. Glad I did too, because there is some minor rot that I never would have found otherwise. anyway, in case anyone is interested..

Cool project. I had a mostly stock 88 that needed springs, sold it on to a friend. I recently traded my 2 door Rubicon in Sarge Green. Anyone near Huntsville AL want a manual without the software update, it's waiting for you.
