So I accidentally bought a set of Gorilla small acorn lug nuts, they are still M14x1.5, but is tiny compared to the OE lug nuts. OE lug nuts use 22 mm sockets, and these are 19 mm.

My question is does these small lug nuts provide the same service comparing to the bulge ones? I guess at minimum the tire iron probably will not work in an emergency situation and I have to carry a 19 mm socket at all time.

The smaller lug nut with a 60deg taper, will actually give better attachment security, because the tapered tip of the lug will PENETRATE THE WHEEL STUD HOLES farther than the stockers--

The smaller lug nuts will allow the use of older wheels on the JL and provide a safer attachment--

I use the "SPLINE" NUTS and carry an extra set of STOCKERS for EMERGENCY-

Good luck

They are made smaller to fit aftermarket wheels. They serve the same purpose for the most part. The stock ones are more robust and solid in my opinion.

I'd say the answer to your question is no.

For some aftermarket wheels you have no choice so... but.....

For JL, stock wheels and aftermarket wheels that will accept the larger mushroom base, you are better off going with a lug with a larger mushroom base.

Look at the mushroom base of this Gorilla Splined, M14x1.50 lug nut:
