The perfect front bumper.

I am looking for recommendations for a front bumper for my 2026 Willys 2 door. I realize many of the criteria laid out below are subjective and, like the "Angry Bird Grille", what may look good to one person Would be an abomination to the next. But I am trusting I can get sufficient insight to make a good choice from the collective wisdom found on this forum. Note that the criteria below is in no particular order.

1. Winch Mount. This is an absolute. I would like the winch to mount as low as possible. Thereby not blocking the grill area.

2. Affordability. This is an absolute. Being old and semi retired I do not have much in the way of "discretionary income"! I have looked for a used Rubicon metal front bumper because it checks most of my boxes. It looks good without looking wild or freakish. I Have not had much luck finding one near me. I have seen Rubicon clones on Amazon And other places but worry about quality. Does anybody here have any experience with those?

3. Appearance. This is subjective! I tend to be more on the conservative side as opposed to wild looking mods.

I agree the cheapest way is to buy a stock steel bumper from someone who took it off. I stayed stock with mine or I would have looked at Metal CLoak or a MORE off road bumper. I did add the Metal CLoak front hoop to the stock bumper.

Agree with the above, the OEM Rubicon steel bumpers are the best looking. There are OEM knock-offs on Ebay for 1/3 of the price that most people sell their OEM take-offs. You'll want to swap out your springs to Rubicon springs because the steel bumper is significantly heavier than the plastic bumper. Jeep tends to use many different spring combinations on Wranglers, so make sure you get the part number for the springs that are from a Rubicon with the steel bumper group.

Picked up a steel bumper for $150 on the forum marketplace. Changed out the red hooks with the black ones from my original bumper.

What is your budget or idea of "affordable"? Also, do you have any examples of ones that you like, but aren't in your budget? That may help people suggest similar alternatives.

Like others have said, finding something used on Facebook Marketplace is probably your best bet, but you may need to be patient and diligent about checking. When I was looking, I waited months and I couldn't find any OEM steel bumpers in my area for less than $800. And that usually didn't include a winch plate. At that price, I wasn't interested in used...

Any other requirements? For me personally, I wanted to try to avoid foreign brands and materials if I could help it - so pretty much anything from Amazon was out, and a decent amount of options from the likes of Quadratec and ExtremeTerrain were also out.

I considered American companies that manufacture overseas, but in the end, I went with an American company and made here and got the steel "Adventure Series" stubby bumper from Next Venture Motorsports, and am happy with it. The base price is $750, but add-ons and powder-coating will increase that.

Weight was also a priority for me, and it's one of the lightest non-aluminum bumpers that I could find. I didn't need a skid plate (no electronic sway bar disconnect) or stinger, and after install with a lightweight winch, I literally couldn't measure a difference in the height of the fenders. If I lost any height, it has to be a very negligible amount (1/16" or less).

I was also very interested in the American Adventure Lab modular front bumper, but at the time, they didn't have provisions for retaining OE fog lights. They've since developed alternative end-caps to keep the fog lights, so if I was buying now, they would certainly be in the running.

I'm looking for a very similar bumper to what you describe and am liking this one so far from American Adventure Labs for a few reasons:

1. Price starts at $300, though you'd have to paint it
2. It's Aluminum and claims to be 30lbs, so shouldn't require beefing up front springs
3. Low winch mount
4. modular so you can add different components over time. I also like that you can swap out different hooks as I'd like to get the soft shackle capable hooks

I'm a bit torn on the looks- I like the boxiness, but it doesn't blend into the grill as well as something like the Rugged Ridge Arcus bumper. I also wish it had a low profile bar option, but I could probably figure out how to fab something up.

The other one I've been considering is the Rugged Ridge Arcus bumper, but that is heavier, more expensive, has a lot of poor reviews for coming scratched, and I can't get over the huge tusks. If I got one, I'd probably figure out how to either cut down the tusks or cut up the bumper to accept regular front hooks. I can't see buying a bumper for $700+ and having to do fab work, so the American Adventure Lab one is very tempting.

This is the @CavFab_mfg crawler series mid width front bumper/skid plate. It’s pretty well tucked in. Come with a very stout winch plate that mounts the winch low between the frame rails.
