I'm new to the forum and am trying to decide what to buy. I've never owned a jeep, but have loved them since my brother had a Silver Anniversary Renegade CJ5 1981 I think. I went to a dealershimp in Houston yesterday and was able to look at both side by side, the Sahara w/ Off Road tires and the Rubicon. I didnt have time to drive either though. They both look great and were just about the same price $53k. I love the Rubicon hood and metal bumpers though. The question is why would you buy one over the other?

I can say this, I probably will only do slight mods, and will not do any major off-roading. It's more of a bucket list thing for me, at this point.

This has been covered plenty of times. Rubicon comes with upgraded Dana axles, suspension, 33 inch tires and higher fender flares as well as unique interior and plenty of other more ā€˜professional’ equipment. Comparing two similar priced Sahara and Rubicons means that the Sahara will probably have more options since the base is higher for the Rubicon. I think the Sahara is more luxury and on-road driving and keeps getting compared to being more SUV like, while the Rubicon is a harsher ride and more truck like. It’s more personal preference for most.

@NO51 Love the plasti dipped Jeep and Trail Rated badges, thinking of doing the same - would it be possible for you post a close up of these? Thanks!

LOVE my JLU Sport S! For me it's perfect. Already added Nitto Terra Grapplers, LED headlights and fog lights, removed the bumper piece, plasti-dipped the rims and "Jeep", added the fuel door, replaced the antenna, put in the all weather floor mats and I think that's it for now. Can't wait to see everyone else's! I got mine 1/28 and still smile when I get in or stare at it :)

I won’t go off-roading st all and wanted to use the price difference on options plus wanted black leather without the red stitching, so I went Sahara. I do want bigger Tires though so I’m wondering how big of a tire I can clear without a lift.

I have 33s and didn’t need a lift- they fit perfectly!
