So my JL went from KZ status to delivered in 4 days. I found out that it was delivered by Jeep Chat. My dealer that I have been working with is away on vacation until next week. Is there any etiquette saying I should wait for him to return back to work? I have never met him in person, but he has helped with all my questions. My wife called the dealership and said we can get it Saturday (in 2 days). Should I wait or should I go get it?
Go get it!!!

If you go get it now and pay for it, does your Salesman still get commission off of it? If he does, then go get it. You can always come back after he comes back from vacation and show him your thanks. You could also send him and email and/or text him and let him know that the Jeep has arrived and that you plan to buy it asap. You could ask him if this will cause a problem with him getting commission and who should he make the purchase with...maybe a manager...that way you can let the manager know that credit should be given to your salesman. I feel like this shouldn't be an issue though because your salesman ordered your jeep and gave you a order/invoice sheet right? I mean they know he's behind all of it...he's name is on the paperwork.

I say, go get your Jeep as soon as you can, let the salesman know you're going to get it....and then when he returns from vacation, stop by and have a chat with him. :like:

That's the predicament. The email I sent to him sends me an auto response. That's how he was on vacation (honeymoon) I wish I could just confirm the whole thing so I know he will get the commission. I might touch base with the manager to ensure it's all cool.

Yea i mean... if he sent you any documentation... we know he set up the order...and that Invoice should have a VON on it...and it should have his Name and # on it I believe. If you bring that, and ask to talk to a manager...have him/her do the deal, I don't see how they couldn't give him the commission.... it's tricky. I wish we had someone that worked at a dealership chime in on this thread. That way, you can know exactly what could be done.

I would text my salesman about it but the hour is too late.

Go get your Jeep NOW; don't allow an opportunity for some mix-up at the dealership to allow it to be sold to another customer. Other threads on JLWF mentioned this DOES happen. Beside you paid alot of money and waited a long time. If your salesperson does not get the commission, that is not your problem; that problem is between them and management of the dealership.

I thought buying a new vehicle, especially one that is built for you was going to be an exciting experience. Well, I will never do it again .. at least for FCA. I am beyond frustrated with almost every step of this process. It almost seems like they do not have the infrastructure and logistics set up to be able to meet most of the expectations of their customers .. I have seen some stories of people getting theirs built and delivered in a timely manner but they seem to be the exception and not the rule. I ordered first of April (delay for color match), order finally went thru mid April then one after another delay and postponement, finally had to get ahold of someone at FCA and got the build moved up as the last postponement put the build at the end of July...no help from the dealer or their supposed contacts at corporate. Now it is finally here (almost) it has been setting in a rail yard by the dealer for the last 4 days and no body can tell when it will be released or why it is still setting there. I am sure I will be happy with it once I finally get it, but this has not been an experience that I would replicate with FCA again.

They've had issues with shipping via rail I heard. Your Jeep is most likely waiting in a yard until they have enough Jeeps going your direction for shipment. They are gonna maximize their cost by making sure that rail car(s) are full before they have it on its way. So, if you don't have a lot of people ordering Jeeps that need to be going your route...you most likely may have to wait a long time.

I don't understand why FCA doesn't contract shipment like this to companies or independent contractors that can pull 5th wheel trailers for the shipment. I was talking to my dad about this..and he was like "where is your Jeep?" I was like Ohio last I checked...he was like "that's fine, let's go get it." Dad has his own 5th Wheel that he used to work for his business. Has a 1-ton Dodge Cummins Dually..and it's no issue to go up to Ohio to get it.

But my point is...I think FCA should be reaching out to independent contractors that have the capabilities to go get Jeeps that have been sitting in storage lots. What they pay them will be wayyy less than what they pay the rail for shipment. And the money they will lose in the future from disgruntled customers, is way more than what they would spend for an independent contractor to go get some Jeeps.

I have to agree 100% ! My 2018 Rubicon JL has been sitting in a yard since 6/13/18 waiting for a ride !
No trucks available to move them to the dealers. And I don’t think anyone cares because the dealers inventory is so low that if you don’t take it, they know it will be gone as soon as they can get it on the lot!

Well my Jeep is setting just a few miles from my ordering dealer .. they can not even get it trucked from the rail yard to the dealer. It took it a couple of weeks to get from Toledo to SoCal.. but they can not move it the last few miles to the dealer. FCA has some serious logistics problems and with one of the highest destination charges of all OEMs, there really is no excuse for it.

Indeed...there's no excuse for any of the shipping delays IMO. They knew everyone was gonna want the newest JEEP because of all of the technology and new features; and with that comes HIGH demand.

Don't misunderstand me...I'm not saying that the current situation is excusable; just saying why it's more than likely happening. They know that people are getting hot because of the long waits...and that is not in their best interest; yet it is ongoing. So, there is a reason behind it, not a legitimate reason IMO, but a reason nonetheless.

IMO the simple solution is get some 1-Ton Fleets to go get these Jeeps out of storage: cheaper and quicker than the rail.

They need to care though...because word spreads...and it may not hurt them now, but it'll hurt them later. You always want to keep your customer base reasonably happy...and these long waits are just unreasonable, every way you look at it.
