Hey guys - finally got around to ordering a Tazer from @Northridge4x4 during their MD sale. I am planning on doing the install later today or this weekend, but I have a question. I bought my JLUR used, and based on some of the settings in it (fogs with highbeams), I am assuming that at one point my JL had a Tazer married to it, and it was disconnected before it was traded in.

My big question: Is the fact that this car had a Tazer married to it going to fuck something up when I install the new one? I assume it won't, but I've been wrong before and I don't need a $50k paperweight on my hands (again).

2. I like some of the settings already programmed and would prefer to not have to make all the changes again. If I install this new one, will the old settings remain, or am I going to have to go in and make all the changes again?

Cheers.

No. And it sounds like the settings were possibly changed with something other than a Tazer. When a Tazer is married to the vehicle, it makes a copy of the vehicle settings at that point in time. When the Tazer is unmarried, those setting get restored. So in your case, since you seem to have some current modified settings those will be the settings your Tazer copies when you marry it.

As mentioned above, when you marry your Tazer it will make a backup copy of all existing settings. When you un-marry it will restore those settings. Any changes you make with your Tazer will need to be re-done if you un-marry then re-marry.

One last thing. And this is very important - be sure to do a full reboot and 2 full sleep cycles after you marry your Tazer and make changes. This must be done otherwise you will have issues. Watch this video on how to perform the sleep cycles.

I have married, unmarried, updated and ended up divorced. The Tazer is amazing if and when it works. For me I prefer having it plugged and married. However the honeymoon never last with this thing. The best part of the relationship ending is no Herpes. The rig has worked flawlessly after the divorce was finalized. I do miss the good times and try not to dwell on all the mysterious $hit

I have an inspection coming up, so I attempted to un-marry my Tazer today. After following the steps, I removed it from the harness, and my radio/screen were dead. So I did another system reboot and two more sleep cycles. Unfortunately, I had to run for a meeting, but the radio did return, although the device is still plugged in. Hopefully, it will be good to remove, however, I did notice that the functions I had programmed into the Jeep are still as if it were married.

Why are you taking it off for inspection. They didn't say a word to me. They access the OBD not the SGW.

I was following the recommendations of other owners who state that they always un-marry and remove it for dealer visits. At this point, if I have the same issues with the radio after disconnecting, I plan to marry it again and leave it installed.

Joe at ZAutomotive, guys that are Tazer JL savvy, will caution you it is very important that.....

... Anytime your JL goes into the dealership Service Department you should unmarry the Tazer JL, remove the Tazer JL and reconnect the connections at the security gateway.

It is not uncommon for a vehicle going in for "just an oil change", just a State Inspection", just a whatever" to be hooked up to the shops WiTECH 2 to see if any updates are due. and then do those updates. You will see this especially if the Service Dept. is not busy and looking for work.

Maybe thinking of the wrong thing, I figured you are talking about a state inspection? I have never used a dealership for that and I try not to use them for anything.

I did forget to remove mine before I went to the dealer for 1 of my free oil-changes and when the guy plugged into the SWG, I said "just ignore the Tazer" and he said he didn't see anything....

I have them scheduled for the free oil change and the inspection is due, so...
