I read the info on sway control for towing in the manual, but can anyone elaborate about the built in sway control in the JL? I know about anti-sway bars that connect between the hitch and the tongue of the trailer or camper, but how does the built in sway control from the JL work? And how is it activated?

Assuming it is the same system used on the RAM it applies the brakes on the vehicle to counter the sway of the trailer. There is nothing you need to do to activate it.

I have a Equal-i-zer hitch on my set up so I have never had that system activate because I have never been in a sway situation. So I cannot say how well it works. I had a really bad sway condition with towing with and older Grand Cherokee once and I never want to experience that again.

To me it seams like it would work great because the brakes would need to be applied less, but would still apply the brakes if the physical sway control bars were not working. I had an RV dealer tell me that I would need to disable the built in sway control from the Jeep otherwise it would conflict. But that makes zero sense.

I would like to know his line of thinking. I do not see any reason why you would need or want to disable the electronic sway control on the Jeep. I would consider the mechanical sway control more of a sway prevention device. Most mechanical systems do not really stop sway if conditions become bad enough to get it started (they would certainly reduce the severity). The electronic system will apply brakes to counteract the sway. I think the way that works is if the trailer sways left, right vehicle brakes are applied to straighten things back out. Have friction sway control in there might dampen the effects of this but I do not see how it with conflict.

One more thing. I would not trust 95% of the RV dealers regarding what they have to say about what you can tow. They will sell people trailers that there are no way they should be towing with the vehicle they have. They want to sell you a trailer and they bear no liability if you try to tow something that is over the weight rating of your vehicle and everything goes south.
