Looking for opinions and real world usage. I'm looking for a good SUV Tent as they call them. One that will hook to the back of the Jeep. I have a mattress for the back of the Jeep, and plan on putting my stuff in the tent while I sleep and other uses. The one that pops up the most on google search is the rightline one. That's probably the one I'll go with, but if there are better options I'd like to hear about them.

Just went camping with a friend that had the the Roofnest installed on his wrangler.

I think it was custom and he had to have it installed by the manufacture but took a few hours. Driving it there would be a pain but was impressed with the overall design.

Looks neat, but want to stay on the ground. I'm using a deep sleep mattress, and will have the tent attached to the back of the Jeep. Looks like the sightline is my best option. Reviews are mixed, but I don't plan on using it during bad weather.

Just something to consider, but not attaching to the Jeep has it's benefits. Not only can you basecamp and go wheeling without packing up all your shit, but it opens up a lot of quality/fast options.

You are correct, but the one I'm looking at can be unhooked and used a regular tent.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he's talking about.

There might be some benefits to it being attached to the Jeep, but having it separate can be extremely useful too. As @GATORB8 said, that opens up a crapload of options on what you can use, from $ to $$$$$.

A couple in our club have a generic tent that they dump everything in, use it as a changing room, and as a basecamp / reserve the spot. He's 6'3" and the two of them are somehow able to sleep comfortably in the back of their 2D JK. Since they're not depending on having a tent connect they're able to sleep in extreme hot or cold weather too.

Just as something to think about, we have an off road trailer, but use a hub tent style Gazelle G6 as our office on extended trips working remote. The Gazelle sets up in like 60 seconds. I'm not sure if you have room, but something like a T4 is probably in the same price range and way better in my opinion.

We have used one of these for a couple years and it has held up well and we camp pretty regularly with it. It is the Rightline tent. It’s easy to set up and move your stuff from Jeep into tent. I am 6’3” and there is a lot of head room. We also use the deepsleep mattress. You can pull away from it and it’s free standing.

I purchased the same tent for my daughter. She loves it and it held up in a rainstorm nicely. As mentioned, you can use it as a regular tent or open up the side like the picture above and have access to the Jeep. She sleeps in the Jeep and stores all of her camping crap and their dog in the tent portion. That way when she is out wheeling/exploring she does not have to haul around everything (she does take the dog with them though).

Went beach camping in our jeep and a couple had a Rightline tent and I quite liked it. So much so, I'm thinking of getting one.
