Of course they can. But they will not spend the money to do it for two simple reasons:
1 - Very few people opt for the manual in 2026 and beyond.
2 - Those who want the JL manual, apparently are delighted to put up with horribly bad gearing, ridiculously vague shifting, overheating clutches, occasional uncontained pressure plate explosions and fire.

Jeep's decision is quite rational actually. Sometimes I think the JL M6 fans want the transmission and clutch to be bad, so they can brag about their skill in driving around the flaws. So the worse the M6 is the more they will puff their chest and claim "Nothing but the manual for me".

P.S. I love manuals, but not crap manuals.
Come on. Projecting on and condemning a whole sector of Jeep owners is not the way to win friends and influence enemies.

Jeep has made strides with the M6. As proof, reports of clutch problems in the later models has dropped off precipitously. How often have you read the "exploding and burning clutch" stories lately? There is a big subset of Jeep M6 owners on this forum who are happy with their later model MT's.

Do you even own an MT? Thought not. Your words are only opinion and heresy, not first-hand experience. And everybody knows, opinions are like assholes and elbows, everybody has them. Better to keep them to yourself than piss on a whole group of Jeep owners.

Not very well thought out shit shares like yours are precisely why I sometimes want to leave this forum for good. Geez!

Sorry you feel that way.

If you believe that the M6 in the JL is a world class transmission (like the ZF8 is unniverasally thought to be), I'd love to hear your reasons for that belief.

Now the Tremec M6 in my Camoro SS 1LE (which I recently sold) is a world class manual and I enjoyed it for 5 years and over 100 track days, all on original clutch, driven hard. Never ever missed a shift. No lift shift support. Perfect gearing. Positive linkage and engagement.

Are you really sure the M6 in the JL is a world class manual?

the past year.

If you want to drive an auto, drive an auto. If you want to drive a manual, drive a manual. You're either willing to put up with it's unique qualities or you're not. But no tranny is trouble-free. As for me and my house, I'd never consider an automatic transmission in the Jeep.
My thoughts exactly. My wife hates manuals. So I know shes not going to just take my car because she wants to.

The gear ratio for 1st is too low for traffic in my opinion. Overall the ratios are not ideal for all. Ive got a 24 jlu willys with 410s and 33s. It works for me. My 08 had 373s and 245/70s was ok tried a 265/70 could have used 410s and 33s probably would have been better. The throw is better in the jlu. Jeep improved the feel overall from the jk in my opinion but the gearing and power bands aren't matched just right. It's not a sports car or a work truck. It's built around an offroad heritage. So being ok for highway speeds is a win.

Every one of your posts is bashing anything other than the 2.0L. In addition, you bash on Jeep incessantly. And then, you go out and buy another. Go find another thread to puke on.

not to root for either side but he’s not wrong im that Tremec is known for their fantastic manual transmissions. Is anyone saying that about the Wrangler’s? I havent driven one myself but i did get to drive a manual Bronco which i thought shifted weirdly. And i havent head a bunch of complaints about those, though im not up on all the bronco tea.

when guys are building big, powerful pro touring cars and want a manual, the go to is typically a tremec. Ford put the garbage getrag manuals in the mustangs except for the top dog models which got….tremecs.

granted, i dont know if tremec makes any orm transmissions for any trucks or ever has. But plenty of notable sports/muscle cars.

Also, just from light reading ive done on this subject, cuz i dont care about it much, isnt it more a clutch issue than the transmission?

i did briefly, for about 5 minutes, think about getting a manual when i bought my JL. Soooooo glad i didnt! I like manuals in sporty cars, not so much in trucks/suvs. Ive had both over the years. Have a Tremec in the garage right now lol.

The clutch is the primary weak point, but the gear spacing is also a weak point. By comparison, Tremecs are fantastic transmissions. I think @gato is correct in this regard. I also think @gato is correct in stating that the 8AT is probably the best auto transmission on the market. However, I think it is an exaggeration to say that all JL 6MT owners think the transmission is great; it seems that most of us 6MT owners on this forum recognize the flaws but choose it anyway. Many of them even ended up trading in for automatics.

Tremec does make the TR-3160, which can be used for light duty truck applications, but I don't know if any auto manufacturer has used it in such an application. Its gear spacing and torque rating is similar to that of the NSG370, albeit a bit stronger.

I've had the chance to drive a JL with an ACT clutch and flywheel and it pretty much addressed my qualms with the transmission. This is telling me the fundamental issue is not so much the transmission itself but the lousy clutch/flywheel setup Jeep decided to go with.

I'm also my third JL with a manual transmission (No clutch/transmission issues between these three so far over the combined ~70K miles), so I guess I'm weird like that.
