I saw one of these the other day and it really got my attention, now I feel drawn to this thing. I checked with my local state inspector he said they are legal in VA, I asked my local PD, they had to discuss it for a minute and said it can blink a few times, then as long as it stays solid red they are legal. For some reason I still question the legality of this in VA, nevertheless what's your take on the strobe/blink 3rd brake light? I mostly run solo but I'm curious are they a nuisance to drivers behind you on the trail? Especially on a night run.

The Amazon offering at the link you provided, is known to SUN fade in color (both lense and body) so you'd be best to avoid that offering.

I have had a "Pulse" unit on my JL since July 2020 and have driven about 45,000 mi. with it.
I interstate travel lots and never have had any law enforcement officers show any concern about the Pulse.

My JL passes New York State Inspection yearly ..... the Pulse unit is aok with the Inspector's..

I've had many many JL owner's and other's ask me where I acquired the Pulse unit and say they wanted one.

For sure.... I do see that the pulse, especially catches the attention of those nitwits following to close.

I've been using the Diode Dynamics HitchMount LED pod version that does this and haven't gotten pulled over for it yet (think I've only had one state trooper follow me since I installed it about 7 months ago).

Mostly bought it for the added reverse lighting, but that quick pulse of red when applying the brakes does seem to get people's attention (when tailgating, they quickly back off.. usually). I figured if it ever becomes a legal problem around here, I can easily just cut the purple wire that controls the strobe feature of the braking light.

The two Diode Dynamics Stage Series HitchMount LED Pod Kit offerings are really decent..
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...unt-led-pod-kit-the-best-5-minute-mod.103255/

I have dealt with/ used/installed both the C1 and the C1R. So darn easy to install.

C1R offers the strobe you mention..

Recently, I installed a C1R kit on my Son's new 2023 Toyota Tacoma. The install is exactly the same as it was on a JL or JT. An install most any guy or gal could do without fuss.

Install took literally, less the 5 mins. Yes, that fast. The 7 pin connector on his brand new Tacoma released extremely easily.

The red running light and the strobe... and the look of the LED pod, mounted in the receiver were really liked by my Son.

The strobe is very subtle and is real nice.

IF you are looking for some increased b/u lighting/strobe, do consider either the @Diode Dynamics, C1 or C1R.

For sure, a way better way to go then with reflector replacement, b/u lights that are a pain to install and usually end up with issues.

I can't find it; I can find the kit but not one just for the 3rd brake light.

$329 for a Tazer JL Mini is lots more then an offering with strobe..

I am very pro Tazer JL as most long timers here know. Regardless, I do feel the Tazer JL is overkill for many and also an adjunct that many guys/gals will get into real trouble with so to speak... as they are not Tazer JL aware/savvy enough ... and or take the time to unmarry when needed, etc..

I've that exact product for my JLU.

You're wise to vet its legality in your state. In some jurisdictions, such lights (even an innocuous thing like a single CHMSL) are legally limited to emergency vehicles.

I'm well pleased with the practical effect of the linked light. It serves to increase the average following distance of most drivers. It also occasionally decreases the frequency of tailgating. Said differently, some offenders get the hint and back off.

It was those easily observed outcomes, via a similar brake light on my motorcycle, that informed my decision to install one on the Jeep. Both blink very brightly and very briefly, after which they burn steady red until I release the brake(s) on the bike or lift my foot off of the pedal in the Jeep.

No one has complained. If anyone does so, they'll essentially be validating the wisdom of my choice, because it's a tacit admission that they've seen me. That's no small thing, particularly when I'm on two wheels, where any contact could be bad for me.

Recommended. ?

RETIRED!
I purchased the iJDMTOY strobe for my 2024. The lens did fade a little in the first 30 days. I removed it and reinstalled the OEM brake light.

Still wanting the 3rd brake light to flash I decided to buy a module and build a plug & play unit. After some research I found a vendor that sold the OEM connector & pins that are located inside the tailgate. I am very happy with the way everything turned out.
