Yes you can just disconnect the ground for it, tape up the end and remove fuse 42.
Do you get the "Service Start/Stop System" warning with either option? Battery was discharged by the time I got home yesterday evening. Not sure which battery, so I'm going to do away with the aux battery to see if it behaves.

If you do the positive cable relocation it makes the system think the aux battery is still connected, if you do the negative disconnect and remove fuse 42 it turns off the system looking for it so ... no you shouldnt get a message.

Either method looks the same to the system, it can't differentiate between relocating the positive cable or pulling fuse 42 to prevent the PCR from opening. Both methods maintain constant power to N1.

Just replace both batteries.

I sort of agree about replacing both batteries. My only hesitation is that if the aux battery causes this much grief and I can do without it, why replace it? The current aux battery is less than a year old and I hate the auto-start to begin with. At this point, not sure if it's the aux or the main. Aux is for now disconnected & F42 pulled. If it starts in the morning, I'll know.

At any rate, I think I have it all sorted out. Only residual issue is it now says service TPMS system and does not read pressure on any tire. I drove it around about 1/2 hour, but it didn't go away. Is this something I'm going to have to spend a jillion dollars for the dealer to recalibrate it or will it eventually clear itself out?

Oh, and thanks to everyone that posted. Next saga will be the ongoing service axle lock system.
