Starter problem on manual transmission

My car Willys (manual transmission) is 2+ months old. Observed an issue on couple of instances last month. When i started the car holding the clutch and pressing the start button, the car's starter motor instantly snapped. I felt it like, while the starter motor was about to start the engine, suddenly the connection had been dropped leaving the engine before it completely starts. After few seconds, when you restart the car, it behaves normal. I live in SC, warm weather, not too cold. Looked for error codes, fuse connections everything seemed to be intact. The car runs fine. Kind of worried in case by any chance I stalled the car in the middle of the road, and if I had this rare problem, it would be dangerous. Will talk to service technician. I was wondering if any of you guys faced similar problem. Any advice would be helpful.

The starter drive could be faulty. This is the starter gear to flywheel engagement mechanism that pushes the starter gear into the flywheel gears. Get it to the dealership and let them diagnose and fix it.

Anything can fail even on a new car. Ive installed new starters that failed the same day.

Could also be a faulty or misadjusted clutch switch. Are you sure you've got the clutch all the way to the floor?

I actually had my clutch position sensor come loose... My fault, had a hose pushing against it for my air compressor… I looked everywhere, chased wires as it happened not long after I installed the Genesis dual batter kit. Even pulled the starter and tested it. Eventually pushed started it and it fired up. Day of troubleshooting, lots of forum searching and cursing. Stepfather comes up and says,“are you sure the clutch position sensor is working?”

Felt around there, sure enough it popped off and was hanging there. Trimmed up the hose, popped it back on and all has been good.

See picture, you can see where the two hoses for the filter was running. They where interfering with the clutch position sensor.

Make sure you are holding the start button in until it starts, releasing the button stops the start.

Yes, I always press clutch to the floor and push the starter button until the engine starts
