wow that is AWESOME!!!! do you know how old she is and can get??
I had an unfortunate run of many males in a row, so I got her in a trade in 2021 as a second instar. So she is 2 1/2 years old. They can definitely live into their 20s. My first tarantula as a young child lived 23 years.

Well bless her little 8-legged heart!

lol spiders like the spare tire. I felt bad about the brake light thing having spider webs all over it until another jeep pulled up next to me at the red light and had the same thing going on lol.

I’ve read that bundles of mint or eucalyptus helps keep them away, but not sure how much it would help in this situation. I doubt it will kill them, but maybe they’ll be motivated to find somewhere else to live.
+1 I have sprayed under the hood, undercarriage, under wheelwell, etc with a few drops of mint oil diluted in water, maybe every 3mos (prob can do less frequently) - prevents all types of critters from showing up

For me lately its been bees. Been stung twice while driving, and have had to remove three more in the last month.

This thread is a good reminder of why I like living in New England. The bugs typically don't get very big and they'll all be dead in 2 months. ?

You can't tell me my P. metallica is not one of the most beautiful creatures out there

Beautiful animal!

I figured it was inevitable that someone who knows something about the subject would go off on the actual recluse distribution. I’m glad it wasn’t I! ?

A friend of mine led a comprehensive, scientific study of recluses in FL. They hitchhike into non-endemic areas of the country, like FL, in moving trucks, etc. They don’t survive outside in FL, and thus have only been found in a few buildings in the entire state.
