This rig was on a 3.5” lift….my girlfriend rode the rollercoaster from start to finish(upside down in a ditch)….she saw me hit my head on my door…go unconscious….hit my seat belt buckle…and fighter pilot eject out my soft top (probably looked like a bearded salmon flopping around in the air)….

I would not speed in these things.

I have absolutely no reason to be doing anything over 80(that’s the highest speed limit I’ve seen on the highways I’ve been on)

im all for a v8 swap and what not…but let typical jap bikes, clapped out chargers/mustangs, etc be the organ donors and your jeep all rugged

Glad you survived that terrible crash, but I still dont get the logic. Safe at 80 but instant death at 81? I don't feel the need to turn off the speed limiter, but I'm not staring at the speedo trying to get around a line of big rigs either. I hit the limiter in the dirt in the desert regularly. If it's your time it's your time. Slowly rolling off black bear or any of the other cliff trails or even highways I've run would be worse than a freeway rollover at 90mph in my opinion.

I’m back in another jlu..still healing up….point of my story was to strongly recommend not messing with speed limiters…and being safe out there…bc even doing the speed limit coming back home from a trail could have you like this or worse on these backwoods 1 lane roads. lol no need to be messing with speed limiters…lol for what? To die quicker😂….i can think of a million other ways to do that….and hauling balls in a rectangle on wheels isn’t one of them.

but for the Dominic torretos out there with a need for speed…..there’s a jap bike out there begging for you to get it…the dealerships even has the hookup with the local hospital so they can quickly harvest your organs 😎🤙

Speed limiter disabled, but just another bonus along with the NoLimitz MDS disable. I haven’t hit the original 99mph limiter but it displeased me on general principles. Why should mine be limited to 99 due to tires ? OK attorneys, but they didn’t raise it when I XR’d it, nor do they lower it if you get lower rated MT’s. Besides, as I have in other vehicles I might need the extra speed when passing on the 2 lane to the foothills when the idjits wake up, been drinking at the lake or casino, decide it’s a race, or just can’t stand being passed when you get next to them… with the oncoming traffic approaching… quickly.

I’m not saying that..I was just saying for the ppl that want to see if they can reach 120mph or more in their jeeps(I.e. turning off the limiter)..I don’t see a point in that. Yeah you can die on a trail….but what’s the point of doing 5,000 mph on a roadway in a jeep lol?

What’s the point?! Sheesh!

Look, candidates for the Darwin awards need room to breathe and do their special magic! If we interfere with their important work, we’ll never get the world’s overpopulation problem managed.

I agree it’s dumb, but there’s always something dumber. As dumb as 120 mph in a Wrangler is, it’s not as dumb as 100 on a garden tractor, is it?
Check out the guys featured below. We don’t want them contributing more to the gene pool, do we?! As long as they’re not out on the road where their mishap in their lawn tractors and jeeps can hurt others, I say Let’r buck! :like:

As you pointed out, a JL is not the tools for real speed, but still can be interesting to see what it is the JL real limit. I was disappointed when I found out one of my car was speed limited back in the day, the thing was still having some pedal left. I can still remember when getting to the max speed required 15 minutes to squeeze the last couples of mile out because you where at the edge of what the engine was able to provide.

Hitting 95 on a ramp is illegal everywhere that I know of. I get that it's safer to pass someone at a higher speed than not.
Montana used to have "no speed limit" back in the day, I tested that in my Trans Am and was pulled over. Tldr, cops told me over 85 they'd stop you. I said, "You should put up a sign."

Even in Utah where the speed limit is 80 the police seem to give you the same 10mph grace assuming you aren't weaving in and out of traffic or otherwise being a nuisance. Even when they are sitting on the side of I40 (75mph limit) they don't bother you if you cruise by at 85mph. Sure cruising 95 will likely get you pulled over, but it likely wouldn't if you just sped up to get around someone.

Entering the turnpike I realized that my stock 392 would not go over 95 mph. .
from my build sheet. 22 JLUW

Hm. If my build sheet is accurate, I've got 15MPH of headroom on the V8 owner. Sure, he'll get to 95 first -- no argument there -- but I'll keep going.

...all the way to the scene of the wreck.

Coincidentally, the fastest I've had my JLU was 95 MPH, during an expedient passing situation, after which I lost my nerve and lifted my right foot. That was well more than enough for me, and I've not attempted anything like it ever since.

The OP’s 95 should not be, non XR with 33 BFG shows 99 mph, XR with 35’s either 110/12. Dunno how accurately they are set having only hit low 90’s a couple times.
edit- the Falken MT option lowered the limiter, perhaps the OP got them.

My '23 4xe Sahara has the same on it's build sheet. I have heard that the 4xe Sahara has actually touched that number before. Not sure where I heard that from, but I trust the source.

With Z rated Michelin PS4 tires there should be no problem if the speed limiter is removed. Mine was from the factory and the top speed per window sticker is 155mph. The only funny thing there is no mention of Jeep on it. Just some silly Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft for some odd reason.

None of us should try, but Chatgpt calculates the Wrangler 392's true top speed potential at 140+ mph even with the brick-like aerodynamics. Scary.

But...to prove that common sense grows with the years, when I was in my early twenties, I once hit 132 mph in a Fiat (of all things) on a public road. The car was way ahead of its time. I customized it myself. The JL 392 may have been a safer choice. I've attached a Road & Track ad from when I sold it 46 years ago. YOLO
With 4.56’s or 3.73’s ? 3.73’s should attain a higher top speed. ie my 69 GTX was still accelerating at 170 with NASCAR gears, geared for 1/4 mi and 1 foot top speed for drags it would have been less.
