Hey guys,

Took the JL off-roading today. Aired down the tires, engaged 4H and 4L.

On the way home I tried to listen to some music but there is NO sound. I tried streaming music through Bluetooth, tuned into FM: nothing.

Even the navigation voice prompts don’t come through. I checked that the voice prompts are turned on; they are.

I turned the Jeep off and back on: still nothing.

Jeep has 6,100 miles.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the premium Alpine system? Try pulling and reseating the F12 fuse. I had the exact opposite happen to me a couple days after I bought mine where the audio was stuck super loud and the volume knob did absolutely nothing. Pulling the fuse reset the audio and fixed the issue. I never figured out what it was as it hasn't happened since.

You could also pull the F97 fuse to kill the radio and reset that, too.

Well, it self corrected. Left the Jeep parked for a couple hours and everything works now.

I’ve had a pretty trouble-free ownership experience, with the exception of these random electronic issues:
  1. Sometimes the backup camera park lines disappear and reappear hours later or next day on their own. It’s happened a handful of times
  2. BSM sometimes disables itself on the trail, sometimes it doesn’t; sometimes it disables itself as soon as I hit the trails; other times after 1 hour or longer. So far it’s enabled itself after I disengaged Part-Time 4WD and turned the engine off and on. Today, though, it didn’t disable itself at all
  3. The 8.4 screen has gone completely blank while driving a couple times; the system rebooted itself
  4. Speakers go dead. This is the first time this has happened. It self-corrected
This kind of unpredictable stuff makes me nervous.

My brother owned a 2015 Jeep Renegade: that thing was in the shop every other week. Finally the control module of the 9-speed automatic, which for some reason is sealed inside the transmission, croaked the week the warranty ended, while they were in a car wash. They had to push the Jeep outside and have it towed. The dealer wanted to replace the entire transmission, on their penny of course. They raised such a stink, that the dealer put them into a 2019 Jeep Compass after taking 50% off MSRP.

They’ve owned that Compass 1-1/2 years now; it’s turned out better than the Renegade. But the head unit will inexplicably go blank while driving and reboot itself, once or twice a day. The dealer says FCA is aware of the issue but has not yet issued a new firmware to fix it. After having driven FCA vehicles for years, they are now done with FCA at this point.

I love my Wrangler, but these random gremlins don’t inspire much confidence. All I can do at this point is keep my fingers crossed.

I normally have to pull the fuse for my radio once every few months as it starts to act up, no audio, volume knob not responding, touch screen issues.

As you stated, just another gremlin to deal with.

go through your fuse box and make sure everything is seated all the way in . I did that on delivery of mine and probably 40% of them needed to be pushed in.

I had a similar situation once. For some reason all of the navigation volume outputs were set to zero. I forced the navigation to 'speak' an upcoming turn and was able to increase the volume with the control knob.
