CDJR dealership, or a “buy here, pay here” dealership? From what I’ve heard, the 3.6 spark plug replacement process isn’t simple and probably a dealer money maker at the 100k mile mark. At 20K intervals, it looks more like a get rich quick scheme.

I got the same thing when my ordered jeep arrived last week. The email came from the dealer, but it's Jeep's content. It links out to a "fcaperformanceinstitute.com" domain. It is supposed to be a "vin specific" summary of parts of the manual with videos. The content is useful, but I suspect that particular item is just an error.

Jeeps own website and build tool aren't very accurate, so it's not surprising that they have incorrect content in one of their CMS tools as well.

EDIT: A google search of "fca performance institute" returns this variance of the URL: https://cms.chrysler.fcaperformanceinstitute.com/ which currently just redirects to the DealerConnect tool, which is one of the main interfaces the dealers have with the Stellantis OEMs.

No way is a spark plug change needed at 20k. It’s 100k in the Manuel.

Here is my own maintenance schedule that I put together r based on the manual. I didn’t like the graphic way it’s in the manual, and I also change my oil more frequently than the it recommends. Oil is cheap, engines are expensive.

GP’s Maintenance Sched:
  • One (1) yr / 7,500 mi - 10,000 mi - Oil Change - Oil MS-6395 = 0w-20 or 5w-30 Full Synth. (Pennzoil Platinum or Castrol Edge)
  • Air filter + Cabin air filter
  • Chk inspect suspension, CV/univ joints, etc.
  • 3 yrs / 30k mi.
  • Brake fluid & Steering fluid
  • 4 yrs / 40k mi.
  • Front & Rear Axle fluid
  • 6 yrs / 60k mi.
  • Brake fluid & Steering Ffuid
  • Differential & Transfer Case & Transmission fluids (Mopar® ZF 8 & 9 Speed ATF)
  • Coolant Flush
  • 8 yrs / 80k
  • Front & Rear Axle fluid
  • Spark plugs
  • 9 yrs / 90k mi.
  • Brake fluid & Steering fluid
  • 10 yrs / 100k mi. -
  • PCV Valve - 100k mi. (?)
  • Belts/hoses - 100k mi. (?)
  • Fuel filter- 100k (?)
  • 02 Sensors - when fail (?)

I am not a mechanic, so what is the difference between axle fluid and differential fluid?

20k miles? Maybe if this were the 70s or earlier. I haven't seen a platinum plug vehicle manual recommend anything other than 100k miles. Dealerships and oil change businesses always recommend very frequent maintenance that go against the designer's recommendations.

Although this is sent by the dealer the actual information is provided by Jeep (FCA). No conspiracy, it’s just a mistake on Jeep’s part.

Well, manual states 100,000 mi. for the 3.6. I changed the plugs on my 2018 JL with 3.6 engine at 85,300 mi. and all I can say is........ I sure am glad I did not wait until 100,000 miles.. Removed plugs were looking bad.... had I waited until 100,000 mi., I'm sure I would have had an issue..

I have had other 3.6 Wrangler's in the past and also worked on other 3.6 Wrangler's in the past... and knew better then to wait until 100,000 mi. for plug change.

Also did PCV valve change out at 85,300 mi.

What mileage would you suggest on a 3.6? I’d rather do maintenance a little before it was needed.
