Dear all,
this may be a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway.
The Manual states that:
  •  To assure that spare tires, flat or inflated, are securely stowed, spares must be stowed with the valve stem facing the ground.
Why?

Thank you for your help!

It's just there for the people that have OCD. I suspect that there should be a statement that says, "When parking over night, jack up each wheel and rotate until the valve stem is at the bottom." Ironically, when a customer comes in and gets a new set of tires, I always mount the center cap where if the valve stem is at the bottom, you can read the logo (it lines up). Then if it has wheel locks, it goes in the opposite lug as to where the valve stem is. This way, when it comes back in, I'll know if I was the one that did the job.

What manual? For a rig that has an under mounted spare? If so then the spare is stowed with the air valve facing the ground so pressure can be checked and adjusted without having to lower the spare.

Air rises?

Lol.
I think we can build upon this and come up with something that can be overly complex yet sounds legit. Once it's posted on the intranets, it's true.

Also, on an undermount, having the valve down would make sure the inner mounting surface of the wheel points up.

I just picked up my JLURD a week ago or so.. Valve stem on the spare is in the 1 o'clock position, so not even the factor follows this...

Looks like a copy and paste error to me. The spare in my wifes Grand Cherokee faces downward (pain to check the air pressure) so that the bolt is long enough to hold it down. Also the jack and tire tool sit inside the spare wheel.

All that said, I wanted my spare tire valve stem up so that it would not collect water and dust around it, but I have to rotate it sometimes to keep it from interfering with the back-up sensors.

So was mine, but with the 35s I went for 12 o'clock. OCD and all...
