I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any aftermarket spare and gas can mounting hardware to make the back of a Jeep look more like a classic Willys? In other words moving the spare toward the passenger side with the can on the driver side. The picture is a Photoshop I did to show what I mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't quite know the angle of the dangle but it looks like the spare might hit the tail light when the swing gate was opened. But, over on the Gladiator forum there was talk of a bumper with swing out tire carrier on the right and another swing out on the left for a gas can, recovery boards, etc. I didn't notice if the company made bumpers for the Wrangler.

Later,
Johnny

I'm no guru, but just did a quick image search of the classic willys. Looks like they didn't have a swing out tailgate. That spare location wouldn't work on a swing out gate. The spare would hit the tail lamp long before opening to 45° and the Jerry can would be blocking the tailgate handle.

If you're interested in an option that's simple, can be used for more than just fuel and water containers, and can be installed and removed quickly as needed?

Thanks! I understand about the clearance issues. I was assuming it would have to be one of the bumper mounted swing-out type that are on rotating posts because of that.

That's what I have been looking for! The website said they would be making it for the JL in the future, so I will have to keep watching their site.

So JCR said theirs was only for the Gladiator and that it would not work on the JL. In fact, most every company and individual I asked said it was impossible. Then I heard about Open Air Jeeps close to me in Virginia Beach VA, and I talked to the owner about my wishes. He was excited for the project, and started to look for a bumper and tire carrier to modify, because almost all of them had a tire cutout/well in the center. He discovered a great option from Hauk Offroad. We ordered a bare metal bumper and tire carrier combo, and his shop went to work modifying it, then getting it powder-coated. I couldn’t be happier with the result. I love the look of the Hauk bumper, especially with the dome topped hex bolts, as well as the hinge mechanism that mounts to the tailgate so that everything opens together. It means I can’t put on huge tires, but I am okay with that trade off.

This is what I have been looking for! Although I'd prefer the Jerry can mounted a little lower... nice setup
