Really did not expect this much of an increase for what? Standard side airbags, turn signal mirrors, and a backup camera?
Inflation accounts for most of it on top of what you said.

Base price increase and probably each option you add has a new updated price increase, like hardtop for $995 goes to $1200 and so forth. Maybe most options will be included NOT ! I wonder how much the 2018 JK base price will increase ?
Possibly the same? But I'd anticipate significant discounts/incentives on the JK to move them.

Didn't they add quite a bit of aluminum to decrease the weight as well? The Ford F-150 has a price increase when they did that

Seeing as they charge $845 for the ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera (and screen) in the Renegade and the side supplemental airbags cost $495 in the JK and the automatic is standard with the 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder ($1500), that right there is over $2500.

Not really the same levels, the Wrangler aluminium updates are essentially limited to doors and hood, while the F-150 is more extensive.
But yes, definitely another contributing factor, especially since this is one of their first forays into more Aluminium , though not as extensive as initial rumours which would've had the Wrangler be somewhat of an FCA test-bed for aluminium fabrication's benefits/challenges, and be closer to or surpass the F-150's levels.

FCA scaled back their original aluminium plans early on (since you have to plan sourcing, stamping, tooling for production) supposedly partly due to not being able to move closer to Aluminium suppliers and specialists who are located near existing manufacturers using a lot of Alu, and partly to reduce timeframes for an already delayed refresh, that would likely have been extended while FCA works through their Alu growing pains.

So, yes, it's highly likely the new Aluminium doors, hood, and perhaps some other body panels would contribute to the possible cost/value associated with this potential price increase.

I don't see the big deal with an increase in the price. Look at it from a business viewpoint: FCA's Jeep Wrangler is in a league of its own. There isn't anything else out there that is as marketable, profitable, customize-able, and down right unique as these bad boys. Personally, if added features such as side impact airbags or better LED lighting help to protect my wife and daughter when they are in the Jeep then AMEN, I'll pay for it! I'm not surprised at the base price increasing simply based on the fact that the Jeep is finally going to be modernized in accordance with all other vehicles both in safety, emissions and aesthetics. "If they build it, we will buy it!"

I guess we can cry about the price increases but I sort of agree with D 1985 - if you want it bad enough you pay the price or pass - I'll just wait and see what the cost will be on what I want and willing to pay. I can always stay with my 2dr Sahara or buy into a new 2018 Jk Sahara if sill around like the Adm. seems to say.

They are already taking orders for the 2018 JK's so there is no worry about "if" they are making them...

my biggest concern isn't the content / price ratio, but rather how much dealers are going to markup with unnecessary add-ons and/or gouge...
