My Jeep is only a 2020. The soft top came separated from its frame. No idea how. Dealer says its on me and it needs to be replaced for $2500.
Its a lease-so no way Im doing it.
Do soft tops really have to be replaced this often?
My premium Trek Top NX on my 2013 JKU is about 7 years old. Windows are scratched from bushes and scrapes. The fabric itself looks like new. It is exposed 24/7 and that includes Texas summers. We have a 2018 JKUR premium sift top. Not abused like mine and it could pass for new with just a few window scratches. I cannot vouch for the standard type material tops.. Highly recommend the premium fabric from Best Tops or from Mopar. same same.
Edit: The Trek top mentioned is more like Nine years old......time fly's...

I would be curious to see some pics and see how it failed. Then, I believe, we could more help determine why. Where exactly did it fail and how?

I've replaced the soft top on my JL - not out of necessity, but because I wanted the tan twill over the black sailcloth I bought it with. It's a relatively simple process, and when I bought it last year the material came in at under 1k. They're either robbing you blind on labor or assuming they can stick you with buying new windows as well.

I just dealt with this on my 2019 JLU at 55K miles. I drove through a big storm in New Mexico with high winds. Not sure if it would have worn out anyway? But it was never the same after that storm. The wind just stretched it out so that it never fit right again.

Farmers Insurance covered it. Just gave the adjuster a replacement estimate. Thought about upgrading to a hard top. But my JL Sport was not wired for the rear wiper, so the top plus install would have been more expensive.

i replaced it with a Bestop “fast back” style soft top. I think the hard top would hold up better. But I love soft top Jeeps. And if I have to replace it again in another 50K miles, I’m okay with that.

Why not take the JL to a professional, Boat / car cover shop. It might be simpler to repair, and as noted earlier, the replacement top SKIN is a lot cheaper than an entire top with hardware. Good luck !

Do you have a pic of what happened. The dual top soft top of my JK lasted 10 years and I would have kept it longer but the zippers started jamming. I replaced the check straps on the frame after 12 years.

In the 20+ years I had my YJ I went through three tops (and the third was still going strong when i sold it).
