I’m planning to reinstall my soft top in the coming days and wanted to ask if there is anything I need to do differently given that when I removed it in the fall, I forgot to lock the spring loaded mechanism? (And almost lost a finger!)

I'm guessing I will need to play with the angle to get things lined up, but after watching some install videos, I’m worried I may need to undo part of it as well.

Does anyone have experience with this situation?

So the top isn't folded up in the "down" position? If it's opened up, can you just fold it back up on the ground?

It’s closed - but the mechanism snapped open(i think thats what it is sprung to do?) when i took it off last year. so its "closed" in the sense of its folded up, but the bolts may be only able to line up if its open? maybe im over thinking this?

Watched a video for installing the top with an aftermarket luggage cover. The video explained that the cover made it impossible to lock the mechanism. The roof would not go far enough back to engage the lock. They explained all you have to do to reinstall without the mechanism being locked is put the mechanism in the "slot" on the roll bar and use a little force to rotate the mechanism into position to install the screws. Sorry I can't link the video since I saw it several days ago.

Yes, you are overthinking. You can lock/unlock once you reinstall the 4 bolts. I used to forget to unlock every time I put the top back on, and couldn’t figure out why the top wouldn’t go back up. I’ve since remembered 🤪.
