I have the same question as the OP. If you were to put true winter tires on your Rubicon (e.g. blizzak), would you consider a larger wheel (20 inch for example), in order to get a 35 inch blizzak on?
I would not. In winter you're much more likely to unknowingly drive into things hidden under snow. Curbs, rocks, logs, etc. So you want as large of a sidewall as you can get to handle impacts with unseen objects.

Hakkas do come in 33" (285/70R17) and 35" (315/70R17). I've had both Blizzaks and Hakkas, I recommend Hakkas. It's a stronger tire compound that can be driven more aggressively and wears significantly less in shoulder seasons. Hakkas really excel when driven hard.

For anybody that switches to snow tires in winter, can you put put 4x 35's in the back with the seats folded down? I'm guessing no, but hoping someone has tried it successfully.
