I factory ordered a JLUR, its a 2023. I ordered it with the factory side steps/rails. I'm sure they great as rock rails, but I mostly just wanted them as a step and I got it from the factory so I wouldn't have to put them on.

They suck as steps.

They're a couple inches too narrow and when they've got snow or ice on them they're practically not usable. I did replace my factory rubi rails on my 2 JKs, is it hard to do on the JLs? I had Smittybilts last time, I'd like to stay in the $3-400 range. Any recommendations?

Based on your tiny profile pic, it looks like you have the Mopar Performance Side Step Rails. If you do they are worth a couple of dollars. You should be able to find something you like and recoup your cost selling the Mopar. There are usually a lot of people looking for them.

I would up that budget with funds from the sale of the mopar ones, I was recently looking for the mopar ones but ended up looking for aftermarkets and couldn't find decent ones below $600, I ended up going with go rhino dominator extreme dss and so far I'm happy with them

I've got the oedro steps on mine. So far I really like them. Makes it easier for the kids to get in and out. Super easy install and right in your budget. The only thing I don't like is that the steps don't necessarily line up the best with the doors, they're a little far forward. However, once you get used to using them it's not all that bad, and the higher step is nice for cleaning off the roof.

I moved mine after being on the jeep for 5 years (stripped and repainted the mounts) the rest held up really good! They are from go rhino...combined with the mud flaps they really help keep the crud off the side of the jeep (especially in the winter)

trade somebody for factory rubicon standard rails + some cash and get some MORE hydasteps. they work great and you can't see them unless you are looking and easily removable for when you do go offroad. my wife is 61yoa and 5'1" and has not issue getting in my lifted jeep with them.

Also a fan of the M.O.R.E. side-step solution. They're spring-loaded so you put your toe on that visible edge and press the step down into position where it makes a perfect-height step for ease of stepping up and in for someone who wants the help. Stable and steady as you step in, then they spring back up out of the way. I had sliders with a step before, and found that a slider height step doesn't really make it easier for my short passengers to get up into the Jeep because the step-up distance is still too high for anyone who needs the step. I needed a side-step that didn't reduce rocker clearance but that allowed a decently lower step, and there wasn't really anything good besides the wide auto-lowering running boards/side-steps. I don't recall the name of those, and they're expensive IIRC, but the OP should have a look at those too, at least to know the top end of what's available. I didn't want those on my 2dr JL and was looking at side-steps you hang in place, then remove and toss in the back--a clunky hassle--then I saw the M.O.R.E side-steps and they were perfect for my use-case. My passengers have loved them and use them easily, they're well-finished, well-made, and solid, and they auto-stow cleanly up out of the way. As Jadmt said, they're easily no-tool removable by pulling a pin when you're on the kind of trail where you need that last bit of clearance and where you slide on your sliders.

@Sbruno6 I think I got em off ebay because I found em cheaper than direct from oedro.

@travisg not lifted but I do have the terraflex spacer lift and shock extensions in my garage to install at some point. Just need to grab the mopar lcas and a torque wrench and I'll be off to the races.

Those look great. How far below the door sill is the step surface? I have factory steps on my Sport S and my 5'0" wife struggles to get in. A step even a couple of inches lower would help a lot.

Gives you 8" from step to sill.
