What to do? I have a JLUSS with a Mopar 2" and 35's. I got an excellent deal when I purchased new and did all the work myself. I'm into my Jeep $40.5k and a dealership offered me $44.5K to buy it from me. Should I take the offer ?

How much would it cost you to replace it? Probably more since you won’t get the same good deal you got to start with. Unless you are not 100% happy with it, keep it. If you you think you would be happier with a Rubicon go for it.

Considering the frames on these JL's I'd take that in a heartbeat. Go buy JK.

My frame appears to be one of the good ones. I don't need a Rubicon but I do like them. I'm leaning toward taking the offer and doing it again. I think I can get another great deal if I shop around. I am very happy with my Jeep.

Turbo next?

From a business stand point, I would try to calculate all the time you put into the Jeep. You're saying that they are offering you $4000 bucks of profit. Take the hours you calculated for your labor and divide the 4000 by that number. Then ask yourself, is your time worth that much on an hourly basis. If it is, then consider doing it. If not, ask for more or keep your Jeep...

Your time is ALWAYS valuable. The best way to figure the LOWEST dollar amount of that value is to figure out your average hourly wage. That's easy if you are paid hourly. If you are salaried, commissioned, or a combination of the two, you just need to do some math to figure out how much you're making on an average hourly basis. That dollar amount should be the LOWEST number you consider for the value of your time. Remember to figure in your GROSS wage and not your take home pay. It's actually more valuable than that because of opportunity costs, personal costs (time with your family) and other factors that may be hard to put a number to.

Torero makes a good point here because Jeep prices have been going up. Make sure you add the increased cost of a replacement Jeep into the equation.

2” lift and 35 tires isn’t much work to do if you know what you’re doing, so the cost for that labor shouldn’t be much.

This is almost too good to be true...is there a catch? You say you’re into your Jeep for $40.5K. Is that how much you owe or how much you paid plus the lift and tires.

If you don’t mind what we’re the original numbers like MSRP, etc. if the dealership is giving you $44.5K then they must think they can sell it for more.

If there’s no catch and you want a different vehicle or Rubicon then I’d take the deal as long as the deal on the replacement is pretty good. A bad deal on the new car can wipe out the profits you make.

Also to ensure you get the tax savings you’d have to trade that vehicle in at the same dealer for a new vehicle. They can always cut you a check for the Jeep and then you could buy somewhere else, but then you’d owe tax on the full amount of the new vehicle at another dealer. Depending on state and county that could $2500 or more.

Great Point I forgot about the sales tax. It is still a 4k profit and yes the work was very easy to do. Still on the fence.

Ok, I’d take that deal now then before they charge their mind or the crack wears off. Also, to ensure you get the tax savings do they have a Jeep you want? If not, then you’ll have to adjust your profit to account for the tax hit you’ll take on the new vehicle.

Is this a Jeep dealer that is offering you $44.5K? Is there something about your Jeep besides the lift and tires that makes it unique. You can pretty much get a new Wrangler for invoice or cheaper anywhere except for a few high demand markets where buyers have deep pockets. They are literally giving you $4K+ over MSRP for mods that would costs a dealer much less.

It's nothing special besides the mods. It's not a franchise Jeep dealer making the offer. I'm taking the offer.

I’d take it only because I have no idea why they are offering to pay over msrp for something you can still buy. That’s just odd to me.
