Well, I backed up into a snowed in parking spot no problem in 4H. When leaving I decided to put into 2WD and see if it'll march on out of the parking spot. I put it back into drive and I guess the transfer case didn't engage so the motor just revved with no give or anything. I'm an idiot so I put it back into 4H, and still no power to the wheels. NOW, I put it into 4LO(still at a stand still), and I put it into that mode while in neutral. When giving it some gas I heard 2 large thuds, and I was barely around 1500 RPMs when it happened. That's when I knew... I was not meant to be on this planet. LOL. So somehow after the thuds and putting my ego in check, I got it to somehow engage into 2H and got out. I drove it in 2H, 4H, and 4LO just to see if it would make any sounds and it didn't (thinking I broke something). Looking at it there doesn't seem to be any broken parts but I'm curious what you guys think the thuds were? Trust me you don't got to tell me I'm an idiot, I know.

I see a Jeep with a Rubi sticker on the hood so I doubt you are an idiot :like:

How many times have you put it in 4H/4L? Just curious if it's second nature at this point or are you still feeling it out when doing it?

I'm guessing it didn't like that you were not moving at the time. Did it say it was in 4H/4L on the dash? You should try to be rolling a bit when going in and out. Roughly 2-3 mph will do the trick. I know you couldn't in this case but try a slow roll anytime you're engaging 4H/4L.

Probably just popong out of 4wd. Like said above moving a little helps engage better. I got stuck in my z71 last year I was hunting and drove through a little creek and parked so I wouldn’t get my feet wet. Well when I came back to the truck and parked and took off through the creek it didn’t have time to shift into 4wd and down I went.

----- I've put it in 4H a good amount of times both rolling under 50 mph and at a stand still in neutral. Usually just roll in 2H cause the Rubi just cruises in the snow most times. For 4LO though, should I still be rolling at a very low speed or shifting in it while in neutral at a stop? Also same with the lockers, those should be engaged while at a stop as well yes? Although I've yet to have a reason to use them, hopefully will in the next few months.

Suggested reading is the procedure for towing 4 wheels down, all the shifting is done while stopped. The last step says you can choose any position for the transfer case. I'm new so I made a cheat sheet so I don't have to pull the manual out every time.

This might help.
