Just picked up my 2018 JL 2-door Rubicon and within 100 miles I got the service shifter light. At the same time I noticed the light, I also opened the hood and it had a coolant smell. Needless to say I called the dealership that day and just dropped it off for service last night. One other issue I picked up was the “P,R,N,D” will not light up at the shifter. I am scheduled to be looked at tomorrow.
I read that others have had similar issues in the 4-door but I can’t seem to find any recent complaints like I have. Especially since the 2-door hit the market.
Anyone have similar issues? If so, resolutions were?
Thanks,

Jonny

Would not matter whether you had 2 dr or 4 dr in regard to the particular issues you are seeing.

For the coolant smell in the engine compartment, a couple of forum member's over the last few month's have posted they too had this. For them it was a fitting right by the coolant reservoir that was leaking.

You will see the coolant reservoir on the driver's side, engine compartment, up top. A reservoir with pinkish fluid visible in it.

As for the shifter light thing. Two here have had the issue, and the dealer ended up replacing that whole unit where you see the "P,R,N,D".

Was just thinking on your issues.... a while back one guy had the shifter light issue and all it was, was a connector not plugged in right.

Thanks for the input Rhinebeck. I just got a call from the dealership. It too was a connector in the bezel under the shifter that not plugged in. I will confirm this was the dolution ovEr the next few days. Fingers crossed.
As for the coolant smell... they didn’t find anything.
Thanks again

Understood... the reason I mentioned the 2-door and 4-door thing was that I hoped they resolved the issue prior to the 2-door being released. No biggie.
Again thanks for the help

I have had the same issue amongst many others. Every warning light possible is tripping. Won’t shift. Wipers go crazy. Lose power steering. 4 months. 6 dealer visits. 3 dealers. Many new parts. All fuses and grounds checked. No fix so far. Help!

Hi Jodi... Welcome to the club. If you look around on this site you'll find that there are many Service Shifter threads with a lot of us dealing with the same issue. It's super frustrating. Our Jeep is currently at the dealership considered unsafe to operate. They intend to replace the ABS Module and the Brake Booster Pump (for the bargain price of nearly $2,000.) I don't believe that this will fix the shifter issue but this is what Jeep insists will repair the problem. Other posts (on the other service shifter threads) have had this same repair completed and the shifter problem persisted. Some are encouraging others to file a NHTSA safety complaint. Good luck with yours.

I repaired my own because the dealer was clueless! He had it 8 days and failed! I got a pair of 50 dollar ramps and fixed it in my backyard in an hour! They replaced the shifter and charged me 800.00! Still did the exact same thing. I removed the corroded ground wire that was down on the side of the tranny filed it all down and sprayed with WD-40 and have had no issues since!

THIS IS AS SIMPLE AS REMOVING THE GROUND WIRE DOWN ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRANNY AND CLEANING OFF ALL OF THE CORROSION. I KNOW BECAUSE I REPAIRED MINE MYSELF! WIPERS GOING LOSS OF STEERING LIGHTS FLASHING ALL GONE AFTER YOU DO THIS SIMPLE THING! Your welcome. So dont go buy a shifter or any of that crap. Listen to me and do this and it will all stop! You have to file off all of the corrosion and spray with WD-40! It gets corroded because it is a steel grounding lead up against an aluminum tranny case. Corrodes like crazy. Mine was only 4 years old! 2018!

Somebody asked me if you have to take it apart. YES! You need to remove the bolt securing the lead to the trany and take a file and file off the corrosive scale that forms on the tranny boss and the grounding wire lead. File it all until it is shiny! Then spray with a liberal amount of WD-40.
