My local dealer has two 2020s I'm considering. Both are 4 door, both are Sport S models, both are the same color with a soft top. One has 58K miles on the 2.0 and the other has 29K miles on the 3.6. The lower mileage vehicle is 3K more.

I definitely like the lower mileage, but I've read the 2.0 is a better engine and gets slightly better gas mileage (which isn't a huge concern to me). I also don't need to win any races. I currently have a 13 JKU Sport S with 135K miles on the 3.6 (I'm keeping it, I'd be trading a different vehicle) so I'm used to it. I'm more concerned with reliability and durability than anything else.

Would you lean more toward one than the other and, if so, why?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I own a 2.0 and preferred the feel of it vs the 3.6. With that being said, the 3.6 is a fine engine. And for the difference in miles I’d probably take the 3.6.

Give them both a test drive and see which you like best.

For the one with 29K miles you should ask for the original in service date. It may still be within the 3 year/36k mile warranty for a bit longer.

The engines are really so close that personally i wouldn't let that be a deciding factor. If the lower mileage is in similar condition then you're effectively buying 19k miles for $3k. Imo the lower mileage seems like the better buy if otherwise equipped the same and condition the same.

If you have no budget get the 3.6 with less miles.

I'm on my second 3.6. You'll find people with a preference for either one, I worry about carbon buildup on the direct injected 2.0.

See if you can negotiate the price of the 3.6 down so you can take the price out of the equation. The lower mileage would be my pick if everything else was the same.

If you have a 3.6 already and are happy with it, you will like it even better in the JL.

2.0 turbo theoretically has more to break

I would ask what you are going to use the Jeep for and how long you want to keep it. For me the difference in miles would be significant. You have to decide if it matters to you.

I'd take the lower miles 3.6. Which is exactly what I did so I'm not just saying that.

Regardless of what your choice is my recommendation is to find one new enough that you can put a MOPAR extended warranty on it. I got a 100,000 mile 8 year added care plus warranty for about $1,300. So even if my 3.6 decides to eat a cam I'm covered. Or if you get a 2.0 and it decides to burn up the turbo you won't be paying out of pocket for that. It needs to be less than 36 months since it's in service date (basically when it was registered for the first time, not when the dealer took it into inventory) and have less than 36,000 miles on it.

Check them both for corrosion and if they are both still under the corrosion warranty (and the dealer agrees to do the warranty repair) give the one with the most corrosion extra points because it will get the most new parts.

Now I'm a little wary. I checked and corrosion warranty is expired on both. How serious of an issue is corrosion on the JLs? I haven't had issues with my 11 year old JK even through western PA winters.

Corrosion warranty is 5 years (I think), so you should still be good.

As for the corrosion - it's basically bubbling paint caused but improper surface prep before painting - prevalent on doors, hinges and hoods. It is NOT rust, nothing is going to fall apart.

Some folks freak TF out over it - others (myself included) simply don't care.

3.6L tried and true plus no premium octane.
Miles pile up quick so lower miles is a big plus.

2.0 does feel quicker of the line for sure. Not sure how much that matters.

I test drove both motors back-to-back before ordering my '21. The 2.0L felt much more peppy, and it's proven to be a great motor for me for the past ~2+ years.

That being said, 20K miles is nothing to sniff at - when in doubt, and all else [basically] being equal, always go with the lower mileage vehicle. Hell, you could probably negotiate some/all of that $3K price difference - that's not much when it comes to moving a vehicle off a dealer's lot.
