Hey Guys,

Can anyone recommend a video security camera I can use for securing our camping site when deep in the woods away from all Wi-Fi and cell service?

I would like it to show the real time video on my apple phone.

Thanks,

Geoff

May I ask what problem you’re trying to fix?

If you’re worried about someone stealing while you’re gone, a) I’ve never had that happen to me, and b) a livestream camera without wifi or cell means Bluetooth and means you’re close by. Even if you get cameras that use a custom hub for a local network, you still need to be within the network’s range. Long-distance remote viewing requires internet (cell or satellite).

Are you worried about being attacked while you’re in your tent/camper/jeep? Perhaps a long-distance hole puncher is better.

What you want isn't a thing...you can't live transmit a video feed without some kind of network connection.

A trail cam is probably your best bet. They use motion sensors to take picture or start recording video. You're not likely to catch thief in the act, but you would have something to give the authorities. You would need to disguise whatever you use or it takes a walk with everything else.

Thought about suggesting those, but I don’t know of any game cameras that have a realtime feed. Part of why I want to know the reason they want cameras.

Plenty of live feed cameras like this. But if your cell phone doesn't have a signal, the camera won't either. Regardless, if way out in the boonies, you're stuck with seeing pictures of the culprit after the fact.

Yeah, I'm used to the ones that don't have a giant antenna or solar panel sticking up from them. Easier to hide in a tree.

This way you can relive the theft over and over. Not much else. Just how many CSI investigators and BOLOs do you expect from this video of someone stealing your Coleman stove and lawn chairs?

The term "security camera " was invented by the industry to sell these things. You can expect law enforcement to put your case priority right behind the lost cat.

You would have to combine it with a system like Starlink. If you want to go this route, I’d recommend a motion activated camera like Arlo tied into a local WiFi network connected to Starlink. Your Achilles heel will be your cell phone, which without a good connection will make getting timely alerts all but impossible.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
We typically will camp anywhere from 100 to 200 days a year. We leave camp set up and wheel from camp. 99.999% of our camping is off grid. We stayed thee nights in a campground last year with approximately 150 days of camping.

We never pack up camp. I leave stuff out all the time. I do secure expensive things like the Jackery and the Skottle. I leave anything that can easily be replaced at Walmart or Sportsman's Warehouse out.

My thought is that where we are I am not worried about the family with $60,000 worth of SxSs and ATVs stealing from me. Nor am I worried about the dude wheeling a $25,000 to 150,000 vehicle stealing my bag chair. Typically the type of thief that does that kind of thing does not walk way out into the woods, mountain, or desert and then want to carry my bag chair for 12 miles.

As @autotragic mentioned you will need to pair up with a service provider. maybe get a sat phone service to receive text when your camera is trigger. I think @Wibbles is right you need to do a assessment of the risk level. Alternatively don't bring anything of value or make sure it can be carry with you when you leave.

You’re many times more likely to have something stolen in a Walmart parking lot than off-road somewhere. Tweakers are somewhere disassembling an old VCR or looking for copper wire, not hiking around enjoying the outdoors.
