Seat Release Cables WTF

Thank you for the advice. I’ll definitely try that. At the dealer they want $144 plus tax and online it’s about $95. I don’t mind the cost of the part but it’s the taking the seat apart and trying to get it back together is what worries me. It’s like when you buy a tent or something and it’s all nice and neet in a lil bag and then you use it and then wonder how the crap does this fit back in that bag That will be me putting this seat back together.

I will say there is a like a plastic filler piece at the hinge...I had some trouble with that and didn't put it back in. I don't miss it. Take pictures as you go, it will help a lot.

From the service manual-

Remove the seat back foam and seat back cover as an assembly, from the seat back frame.
Remove the screws (1) and the top cover (2).

Unclip the release cable from the seat frame.
Open the release handle and release the necessary cable end (2).
Unclip the necessary cable (1) from the release handle housing.

Remove the screws (1) and the foam support (2).

Remove the screws (1) and the mechanism cover (2).

Position the inner cover (2) aside, unclip the cable (1) from the mechanism and remove the cable end (3).

INSTALLATION

1. Install the cable ends to the release handle and mechanism.
2. Route the cable and clip it to the seat frame.
3. Verify the function of the release cable.
4. Install the mechanism cover and foam support.
5. Install the top cover.
6. Install the seat back cover.

You're welcome! FWIW I have been folding the seat with the new cable quite a bit and it has been working great.

I took my seat out to install a weathertech cargo liner, when i grabbed the cable, entire cable pulled out. 2021 JL 2 door, were is the cable release?

Is this the rear seat on the 2 door? That's actually the only one I haven't worked on. Have done the front one a few times.

Blame the guy who developed the plastic recliner chair release handles. He obviously got a better job at Jeep. Who knows where he'll move on to next... maybe SpaceX.

The Chinese would make a fortune selling Wrangler aluminum seat release handles and cables, like they do for recliners.

Its a conspiracy... make the issue to make more money fixing the issue. The McAfee way, with his virus scheming ways.

Yes, 2 door rear seat.

If it's anything like the 4 door, that cable goes into a little sleeve coupler. I'm out of town but when I get back I can check the service manual.
