So, driving highway 12 on Hatteras Island today in my '24 Sahara we got heavily sandblasted by the 'noreaster coming this way. A few years back I had the same thing happen on the road to Ft. Irwin, in the Mojave desert. That Jeep's paint was never right and it significantly reduced the resale value.

Anyone else "recover" the paint on their Jeep after such a sandblasting? How did you do it? Any specific products? Or, did you just let it be?

By the way, I expect more tomorrow if the roads are not closed due to drifting and flooding.

Beach photo of my best pal, attached.

I would think a light polishing compound with a random orbital buffer would handle it. You could probably do it by hand as well.

Be safe around Hatteras. I also live OBX with Jeeps... so I'll watch these comments.

Hopefully these new storms don’t wash anymore homes away in Buxton. We’re hoping to make it down there after Christmas for a week.

Basically your outermost layer of clear coat has been abraded by Mother Nature’s sand blaster. I’d go and buy a bottle of something labeled as a “polish” and pick an area of the car. If you are used to using a buffer you can apply it with that and if not just do it by hand. See if that is enough to clear up the problem. Other wise it’s a very doable first for some one who details cars for a living.

Go with the gentlest method first. I'd do a full decon, then a finishing polish on a DA buffer.

Buffing removes clear coat, so if you have clear coat damage, it can make it worse.

About 25 years ago, I had a nearly brand new metallic red Ford truck. A massive dust devil was coming at me from the right, and I was on the highway doing about 70, with traffic behind me and no way to stop quickly. I drove right into it. My truck was buffeted by the wind blast, and I could hear the aggregate pelting the left side. When i stopped, I checked it out, there were hundreds of everything from specs, to deep chips in the paint, and on the door glass. I compouned, polished and buffed it. It made it about 50% better. Oh well, drove it that way until it was traded.

The JL is known for thin paint. You might have a paint shop assess it and make a recommendation. I suspect they could wet sand it with 1000 and clearcoat it, then sand and buff.

I got blasted with sand a lot when I was a young man growing up around Apache Jct.

I guess that’s why my patience is so thin now….
