If only Jeep made sideview mirrors like Ford does, I wouldn’t need the Blind Spot detection and Safety Group. I’ve gotten spoiled by being able to see everything on my sides without having to really turn around...

I plan on buying tiny spotter mirrors and put it in the exact same place as my Mustang. I've done this in the past and they work just as good. I'm not going to trust a light bulb to let me know if there's a car next to me before I side swipe it to oblivion.

I might have to install some in the bottom outside corners but cosmetically I like 'em coming out of the factory like that

The blind spot on my LJ is huge, and visibility in general is terrible. I know it’s improved, but I look forward to some additional tech to help out.

And the rear cross path detection seems like a gift to those of us who live in cities/towns with angled parking. It will be nice to stop relying on other drivers to see me as I creep out far enough to be able to see.

Safety group should be standard. I have it in my GMC and it’s fantastic. (Well, the haptic feedback seat and collision warning are useless, but the camera, cross path detection, lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring are awesome.)

I’ve never driven one of those cars that will automatically brake. Taking control away from the driver sounds bad to me in principle . My truck flashes a red light when it thinks a collision is imminent, and that thing sends false alarms all them time. If each red flash was an automatic engagement of brakes I think it’d actually cause accidents.

Anyway, as others have stated, this new technology can’t and shouldn’t replace using your eyes and mirrors. That said, what FCA implemented for the JL is a wonderful enhancement and I don’t see any valid argument to opposing it (other than cost). Hopefully they make it standard option, soon, like the backup camera.

Before I got my Cherokee I had a GMC Terrain. I loved that vehicle. It had the audible beep when backing up to let you know something was in your path. Unfortunately my Cherokee doesnt have it and that was something I missed. So it was one of the first things I added to the list when ordering my Jeep. I totally agree with @OldGuyNewJeep " this new technology can’t and shouldn’t replace using your eyes and mirrors". I'm so glad they offer it on the Jeep and I understand why Jeep has it as an option...because the off-roaders may very well knock it off while enjoying their endeavors!

But are the aftermarket steel bumpers going to have the sensors built in? I would like this technology but want new bumpers!

I was going to make a post if the safety group was worth or not I'm torn don't want more shit and jacking up cost esp since back up camera standard. But blind spot might be nice though it will have better side views I feel than my current car

One nice add for the blind spot monitor is that you get the led tail lights which are way nicer than the stock

For Houston, I think the problem isn't your immediate lane over, but people in the lane further than that switching into the lane you're aiming for. Only eyes can really help with that. It's a nice to have, but I plan on skipping.

I do agree this should be standard on Jeeps. My girlfriend's Honda Civic hatchback has a freaking camera on her right mirror that shows up on the center console when you turn on your blinker. That's on the EX trim for 21K.

Edit: Now that someone mentioned it. I didn't notice the LED tail lights. Would that look weird to have LED tail lights and no LEDs in the front? The Sport doesn't even get the option for LED headlights.
