Hello,
I have 2021 JL Unlimited 3.6 Engine- 4 Dr and I am looking for good options for a lite weight camper. The only necessary option is an on board toilet. Anyone have some good recommendations?
Thank you!

IMO the best camper towing info on this site comes from wibornz. Follow his threads. Strongly suggest you modify or change your hitch from a class ll to a class lll if you are going to use a WDH. Ted has been very successful towing his new camper. He had converted the toilet to a composting one. Plan on being in the sub 10 MPG when towing.

We like our Casita trailer. Weighs around 2500 lbs, easy to pull and has bathroom.

We went with the Boreas XT, manufactured here in Colorado.

Fully offroad capable with Cruisemaster hitch. 30 gal water, Lithium batteries with an inverter, I've got 300W solar to keep it topped up. Added the Starlink on a telescoping mast so I can work from camp. Has built-in heat (newer models also have 12V A/C as an option, but I'm using a portable EcoWave 2 for A/C).

Front has a very spacious tool box, and provision for a folding bike rack.

There is a tankless water heater in the black box on the side, so we have hot showers. On the other side, we have the 2.5m ARB awning and the awning room, which adds another enclosed area when deployed. We have been very comfortable down to -9F so far. There is a nice galley on the back side. It's got everything we need for our Colorado adventures, and we can still haul it over Vail Pass at highway speeds with our JLUR.

No on-board toilet, but we use the Cleanwaste Portable Toilet in the shower enclosure and it's been more than adequate for the task. Much better than a pit toilet!

The Casitas are very nice trailers. Do you think the wrangler would tow the next bigger one? A friend has an RPod and has been very happy with it and tows it with a new Bronco.

@ROK HEMI Did not know they make a larger Casita Trailer. We have the 17 footer Spirit Deluxe.

The wrangler tows it great so far. Lower gears definitely helped and we use a weight distribution hitch to help with sagging. But, your 392 would tow it no problem for sure.

I do it bass ackwards.......I have a small class A and tow the Jeep most of the time. When I can fit more toys, Ill consider a small overloading trailer.

Nice looking set up. About how many miles have you towed your Casita with your JL?

@LukeDagny not sure how many total miles but our last trip was a round trip from CA to NV to Utah back to CA for a total of about 1700 miles. Went from sea level to 7300' elevation on one stretch. Handled it all no problem.

Having the 2 door, we had to go light. Having just went to fixed income (retired), we had to go cheap. Found a 27 year old Coleman pop-up in decent condition (had to look at a few rags first).
At 2600 pounds dry, it pulls well, and only cost 2-3mpg. It has an outside shower and we added a self contained toilet. Both shower and toilet used in a pop-up enclosure from Amazon.

Thanks for the info. I started another thread about frontal area. Per dimensions from Casita's website, your over the frontal area, but your setup doesn't seem to be an issue.

Boreas XT here as well. We’re just wrapping up a 3000mi AL, AZ, UT, CO, MO round trip. Weighs around 3000 fully loaded. Handles everything great. We went with a leveo dry flush toilet- highly recommended. Trailer has just enough space, light enough, and has many customizable options.
